Ten Minute Taste: Last Rebellion

7:00 PM on 02.10.2010

[As posted on Destructoid]

If you've ever played one, you'll know that ten minutes is barely enough for a whiff, much less a taste of the typical RPG. That's why we recorded eleven minutes of footage from NIS-America's new title, Last Rebellion, due February 23rd. That's just enough time for you to watch the opening crawl experience Ayako Kato's unique illustration style, and watch me muddle through the first tutorial fight against some rather boss-sized enemies.

Last Rebellion's system seems to revolve around targeting enemy body parts and working out the best sequences to hit them in, the better to apply damage multipliers and special "Stamp Magic." Unfortunately, this early tutorial only features the actions of Nine Asfel, our smug-but-talented hero. You can actually use two characters in tandem during battle.

Watch the video and tell us what you think! And then...

Time for lunch!

Damn, I really want to support NIS, but this game needs to show some other draw. The turn based combat is not bad in itself, but the body part targeting mechanic seems cumbersome. Combat looks clunky and slow. I think they would have been better served to base it off of the one on one encounters used in Saga Frontier where choosing a specific combination of targeted body parts resulted in either more damage and/or combos. I hope they kept with their tradition of having dual audio tracks. Also, I really hope there are branching paths and multiple endings, such things could make for more appealing aspects to look forward to.
Im with strey, i want to do all i can to support NIS but this looks so slow and boring!
that gameplay looks boring. wow. thank goodness its on the ps3 otherwise I'd have to buy it just to support NIS.
Good lord, how did you manage eleven minutes of playing through *that*? It's so..brown..and the menus so...numerous.
Kudos on the Spinal Tap reference.
this video is a good reason why i dislike most rpgs.
Yeah, I had a bad feeling that this would possibly be boring. Like many others have mentioned, the game has no other draw than the body part thingy.

Say Hello to the Xbox One

No, not the first Xbox, or the Xbox 360. The third of Microsoft's consoles has opted to dial down its numbering by three hundred fifty-nine while dialing up its hardware. And it's called the "Xbox One", which means that...

Woah: Wii U gets MegaTen x Fire Emblem, Xeno- game, more

The Wii U is loose, go mad!

It feels like quite some time since the world simultaneously smashed their heads on their desks upon seeing Nintendo Land instead of Super Smash Bros. Something, rounding off a pretty neat but somewhat confusing Wii U showing...
