TGS 09: Playstation Network to overflow with manga December

TGS 09: Playstation Network to overflow with manga December photo

As the 2009 Tokyo Game Show gets under way, it looks like Sony is preparing to really beef up its Playstation Network offerings, especially for its Japanese fans. New details have come out regarding the planned PSN manga distribution system, as well as its sizeable initial catalog.

Coming this December PSP owners will be able to read manga in-between sessions of Monster Hunter, as a new "manga" tab will be added to the PSP Playstation Store page. Eleven of Japan's major manga publishers, including the Kadokawa group, Kodansha, Square Enix, and Bandai Visual will be bringing some 100 series to the store at launch.

Various high-profile lines such as Doraemon, Fullmetal Alchemist, Nodame Cantabile, One Piece, and Neon Genesis Evangelion.

Well, it looks like online manga's really gearing up to get huge. Hopefully this'll also trickle into the English-speaking PSN space. It'd be great not to have to buy so many paper volumes, especially if I intend to catch up on all those long-running fight series.

Hit the jump for the full title lineup, courtesy ANN.
