And the winner for the sexist dental robotic patient goes to… Simroid! This sassy robot was originally designed as a training tool for dentists; and well, still is a training tool for dentists. Being the CLAMP detective that I am, I got a feeling it won’t stay in this field for too long; seeing as an otaku probably created it in the first place. Perverted jokes aside, this robot is extremely helpful for those in the dentistry field who need to brush up on their patient interaction skills. Simroid can follow spoken instructions, has sensitive teeth, and can sense pain. Not only does it do that, but also exhibits a gag reflex when things are inserted too far into its mouth.
The reason behind its realistic appearance and life-like voice is to convince doctors in training to treat this training tool as a human being; inducing better communication with patients. Now if you want to see this robot in action you have two options, either go to the 2007 International Robot Exhibition in Tokyo, or take a trip after the jump to view a video demonstration.
Sorry to break it to you like this, but this is my last post; because I'm moving to Japan to become a dentist.
