It has been a very long time since a Kamen Rider show has been dubbed and remade for American audiences, but the wait will finally be over on the 27th of February. Kamen Rider - Dragon Knight is an adaptation of Kamen Rider Ryuki, which is the twelfth installment of the Kamen Rider series. At the end of its run, sometime in 2009, there will be a theatrical film released; though I’m unsure what this film will actually consist of.
I think it is important to note that the CG in the original has been touched up, especially for those who have watched the original show. But after watching the pilot episode, which can be seen after the jump, it is easy to figure out that Dragon Knight and Ryuki are practically two different shows. Especially since they had to add those minion, Power Ranger type creatures in every episode; but I have to admit the fight with them in the pilot was pretty good.
This feels more like a guilty pleasure than anything, but not something that is intrinsically bad. If I were a kid and I watched this I think I would be in love; but that isn’t saying much.
As a total tokusatsu fanboy, this excites me SO much. I watched the fansubs for Kamen Rider 555, and though I never got around to finishing it it was a pretty damned cool show. I'll check out this pilot later.
Ryuki was my least fav of the quote unquote new kamen rider series. Kamen Rider Blade, Faiz(555), and Kabuto are my fav. 555 was my top pick, but Kamen Rider Kabuto kicks all their asses.
...
Yes it's a guilty pleasure of mine, damn my adult status.
Too lazy to play that video (also on dial-up). I take it by minion, "Power Ranger"-type creatures you mean wannabe putties? Yeargh. I hope this does well, but honestly? I'd rather have Kamen Rider (from the original to the one that just finished) brought over here subbed.
