As for mixing up anime and hip-hop, it's not the first time I've heard something like this and I've come to the conclusion that hip-hop and anime are only going to work if the artist doesn't take himself or the source material too seriously. I mean, I'm an Evangelion fanboy myself and the cheese is just dripping from my ears.

Take Duane and Brando for reference. It's a whole different brand of hip-hop, but it totally works. I'd honestly love to see those two do something anime-related.

It's not the most amazing combo of anime with rap that i ever heard. Some of it was a little forced...ok a lot felt forced, but lovingly forced.

ok that might be harsh, but it's not very clever, which i think is what distinguishes good rap music from bad music. This falls into the trap of most modern/mainstream rap, lacking good word play. Duane and Brando are a pretty good reference i think for good rap nowadays, because it's clever in it's wordplay, something lacking in the Eva effort.

I really appreciate the work put into it, but it was shoving a lot of Eva mythos into a song without being clever about it.

Someday we may get our own "anime dyuane and brando" till that day, i'll stick with nerdcore and the like for my nerdy rap needs.

thinking about eva pre rebuild gives me a headache so i skipped that one. i kinda like the dbz one actually. a decent amount to be honest. it was fun and enjoyable. i didnt go into this thinking it was going to be "serious hip hop thats going to break down barriers" either.

wait nevermind. the end ruined it. when he was talking about his father having a premonition about the future and downfall of his people and yadda yadda I thought was going to be about MLK Jr, which would have been cheesy and sorta out of place amongst the rest of the song but I felt like at least it might have tied everything together into a bigger meaning metaphorically (even with the Bardock pictures). But for him to infer he's Goku was much more cheese than my diet can handle, and it ruined for me.

thank you everyone for trashing my song... i guess i'm a terrible human being for trying to mix two things that I love... Most people who like hip hop won't embrace anime because they think it's "childish", I get attacked like most otaku do.. "Why are you watching that kid stuff... anime is for fags... black people don't watch that crap... yadda yadda" ... So why is everything so horrible. I just made an attempt to shine light on something that's cool to a community that doesn't understand people like us and i'm cheesy for it?? Hey guys, why the harsh opinions all the time... You can hate my song, fine... more people like it then the few of you who hate it... BUT let's ease up on the cliiche Hateful-anime-fan-who-sits-in-their-room-going-from-blog-to-blog-bashing-everything... It makes us look bad... I've looked at comments on this site and MOST of them are bad, Sailormoon sucks, Eva rebuild is trash.. and it goes on... So you can hate my songs, but in the future stop being so negative, get out the house away from your computer for once and go live life instead of pretending that your negative opnion matters... I love Eva and Akira Toriyama.. sue me... you wanna do better? go get an mpc... some samples.. make a beat.. write some rhymes... go to the studio... record it .. mix it... and put it out... and then see the work that goes in to this kind of stuff.... As a fellow emcee/def poet I'm going to make this as constructive as I possibly can. Mainly because I'm a fan of both hiphop/rap as well as anime and bridging that divide is something I want to see happen.

First off, I respect your attempt but the song is what it is. The lyrics are kinda cheesy and really sound like you're trying too hard. This makes you come off as a dork to the hiphop community and a geeky outsider to the anime community.
What I feel the problem is, is that you're trying too hard to directly pull specific things out of the anime and make it obvious that you're rapping about Eva or DBZ. Songs like that are do-able but best approached in a non-sensical/ joke-like manner cause they'll always have that cheesy nerdy quality to them.

Now if you're aiming for a more emotional/serious track that you really want to hit hard, you don't want to focus on the anime itself. Instead you want to focus on a theme. When you listen to theme songs and such, the lyrics are never directly pulling things out of the anime. Rather they share a similar theme, like say Nujabes - Battlecry. The song itself doesn't tie into the anime, but the theme of chivalry, swordplay, and the spiritual aspects of the song are related. So when you're writing about EVA, don't focus on telling the story word for word. Rather talk about depression, rejection, anxiety, trauma, etc.
