Two of my favorite films from the past decade of film are The Girl Who Leapt Through Time and Summer Wars. What do these two movies share in common? A director named Mamoru Hosoda. It's been a little while since his last film hit theaters and many have been looking forward to his next theatrical project.
With just a little over a month until Hosoda's third film hits theaters, we get what I imagine will be the last trailer. The Wolf Children Ame and Yuki follows a college student named Hana who falls in love with a werewolf. They have two children, Ame and Yuki, who also have werewolf attributes that allow them to transform at will. After the children's father passes away, the family moves to the countryside hoping to start anew.
Unlike the action packed Summer Wars, Wolf Children is looking to be a more quiet affair with a big focus on family and the bonds between people. Unsurprisingly, the animation and art style both look gorgeous. I have little doubt that Hosoda is going to knock another one out of the park.
Check out the trailer after the break. The film opens in Japan on July 21.
