To be honest, K-On!! has drifted so far into totally insane territory it's often amusing to simply see what on earth they'll do next. Yui being slapped with cash was a textbook example.

iirc, in the 4koma, the artist just did a pretty massive tease where Ritsu was being secretive about something, and the rest of the band started wondering whether she got a boyfriend. She was trying to hide something completely unrelated, but they spent what would probably amount to an entire episode talking about boyfriends, specifically whether Ritsu had one, and speculation about the hypothetical dude.
