Today is Tsundere Day! photo

Here at Japanator, we're fans of random themed holidays. We'll take any excuse to write snarky articles and post huge galleries for our readers' enjoyment. Sometimes, these days coincide with real world events, and other times they are completely random. Today is a perfect example of the latter. Japanator proudly presents... Tsundere Day!

For the uninitiated, a tsundere (tsoon-day-ray) is a character, usually female, who has a split personality: sometimes, she is cold, harsh or violent (tsuntsun), and sometimes she is sweet and loving (deredere). Tsundere characters have trouble admitting feelings of love, and often treat romantic interests harshly while denying any infatuation. For example, a tsundere might give her crush a specially made box lunch, then angrily insist while blushing madly, "It's not like I m-made this especially for you! I just had some extra food! You d-d-dummy!"  Anime examples of this character type include Kagami from Lucky Star, Asuka from Evangelion, and Mikoto from Scientific Railgun. A non-anime example is Princess Leia in The Empire Strikes Back. Scruffy lookin' nerf herder...

Further information about tsunderes can be found on TV Tropes.

In celebration of Tsundere Day, our editors will be posting tributes to their favorite violently abusive romantic interests, accompanied by lots of pictures. Additionally, we've prepared a special piece of technology for the festivities. Our new Tsunder-Ray will convert all of you, our loyal readers, into tsunderes so you can experience the fun firsthand. How does it work? Magic, I say! Magic!

For maximum effectiveness, please stare straight at your monitor without blinking as you continue reading below the break. You may experience mild itching, dry eyes and the insatiable urge to repeatedly punch friends and/or loved ones. These symptoms are normal. If the ray is not effective on the first attempt, please remove all metal objects, portable media devices and fruit juice products from the vicinity of your computer, then reread this post to try again.

FIRE THE TSUNDER-RAY!

B-baka!

Comic by Daniel Kim. Used with permission.

Did it work? Of course it worked, you halfwit! Geez, we go to all the trouble of building an advanced magical personality converter beam, and you say something like that? Just shut up and die, idiot!

Anyway, we hope you enjoy Tsundere Day. D-don't read too much into this, though. We're not doing this because we l-like any of you. We... we just had some free time, okay?! You can be s-such an idiot sometimes. Go rot in hell!

Oh, and before any of you perverts ask, here is a full-size version of the OP image. Go ahead, stare at it longingly like the pathetic lonely shut-in that you are. Moron...

MOAR Tsundere:

Legacy Comments

Is she suppose to be the mother of all tsundere?
She's just an example, dummy!
Shouldn't we have a definitive mother of all tsundere to celebrate tsundere day? I am wondering who the Eve of tsundere was.
Sounds like a C-blog waiting to happen, Rewarp.

Also, does this mean all guys have to be oblivious to every single thing our tsunderes do here today?
Well, considering I can think of a few classical mythological figures that would qualify as tsundere, I would say the concept is pretty old. Early examples from anime might include Sayaka Yumi from Mazinger Z and Akane Tendo from Ranma 1/2.

Not that I expect you to understand any of this, halfwit.
Just about the entire pantheon of Greek gods shift between Tsundere and Yandere.
worst holiday ever T___T
Best holiday ever! We just need a Haruhi Day and Meganekko Day and my calendar will be full (unless there are more great holidays).

I have always disagreed with Kagami being Tsundere. She was always provoked by Konata, hell she would guess she was going to ask her for her homework. When the she thought the guy was going to confess to her, she never got mad only embarrassed. If anyone would say why she is considered Tsundere it would be great.
I can't tell if I'm supposed to be happy or ragey.
So, today all Japanator blog posts are not really for us or anything, right?
N-no! We don't write posts for this site because we l-like you! Although, I guess it's alright if you r-read them anyway, since you're here...
D-don't get it wrong, i-it's not like I liked this post or anything...
I didn't write it so you'd like it, moron! Geez, you're pathetic.
I can see the tsundere concept doesn't quite work online, idiots.
Hey! It's not my job to anticipate your complaints, baka. If you don't like it, go write your own tsundere post. After all, the Cblogs are RIGHT THERE. What's stopping you? Besides your crippling stupidity, I mean.
Today, is a fine day, for tsundere :)

They say women and fine wine are a lot alike. Both get better with age (unless you're a weirdo lolicon), and I like mine when it's a little sweet and sour :D

Also, Dan Kim is awesome, and Rin is soooo much better than Asuka.
Ever notice tsunderes don't have other tsunderes as love interests. Jon?
I have no idea what you're talking about. I don't see any tsunderes here.

...baka
lolol TvTropes link.
It's not like I think this is a good idea, you know. It's just...I don't have anything better to read...
@nortonantivirus: Tsunderes are tsunderes precisely because there is someone who provokes them, though the best provocation comes from the clueless or oblivious. If no such source exists, I guess that makes the person a sleeper. As for Kagami, she had her share of deredere moments- being visited while sick, catching a goldfish, and as you pointed out, the mistaken confession.
Its funny that some people think this is stupid. But as soon as news of The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya comes out, people are like "hell ya, Haruhi"!

The internet is a tsundere. People always say "I hate [Destructoid, Editor (Mainly Jim), Whatever]", but they always come back for more. They always do.
I thought it was Fanservice Friday. Or as we say on twitter #fanserviceFriday
It's not that I liked this article or that I think Tsundere Day is a good idea... But you know I've been coming here for so long I figured I'd read it and go along with it.

Why're you looking at me like that all of a sudden!?!
You son of a bitch! You linked to TV Tropes! I was stuck there for FIVE HOURS!

:)

And thanks for telling me the hell to actually pronounce Tsundere.

@Shiro Shishi: On that note, http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/TVTropesWillRuinYourLife
Oh you bastard, you've done it now. I managed to stay clean from that website for a full 4 weeks. Now I wake up from my trance and realize I was on Tv Tropes for...shoot, I'm not even sure how long anymore!

But really, only good things can come from a day devoted to Tsunderes. I'm a bit late (but then again, most protagonists who score with Tsunderes are clueless and never on time) but I still voice my appreciate for the beautiful combo of tsun tsun and dere dere.
So far i read alot of Tsundere and gosh , all of them write in the style of a pro -.- i can't even think of how to write even thought i have one in mind :(
Asuka made me hate the tsundere archetype, even though she's probably a far too extreme example of it. I actually like Kagami, Mikoto, and hell, I even like what I've seen of Asuka in Evangelion 2.0. Despite this, I still have a strong aversion to the word 'tsundere'. It's incredible how much of a negative impact the original Asuka has had on the word to me.
I was hoping for random pictures of tsundere characters instead of the comic =/ Tsukiumi would have been a better example (My favorite character from sekirei)
Btw, does this mean there's going to eventually be a yandere day?
Huh. I didn't know that Tsundere Day fell on my own birthday--that's a bit odd. Does this make me a tsundere?
Well, now that I've read the whole article, my previous question is null and void.
