Imagine a screen hovered over your eye that would display pop-up overlay graphics that would give you the directions to the nearest eateries, logos and direction arrows included. That's the freakin' future for fatties! That's my dream!
It may not be as cool as an over-the-eye screen, but your iPhone can do something similar with Tokyo Underground, a new iPhone app. Using both GPS and camera tech, the Your New Eye functionality of Tokyo Underground lets you see the world with little pop-ups that show you the distance to the closest nom noms. It updates distances in real time, letting you know how close you are to your next coffee or bowl of curry rice.
To use this function, simply start the app and hold up your iPhone (sorry, 3GS only). Anything less than 1km away will pop up. You can literally follow this icon to food. You can set it for different points of interest, depending on your tastes. The app does so much more; you can see the full details on the official webpage.
Naturally, this would be incredibly useful for visitors to Tokyo. I'll give it a spin later this month, and when I come back home fat, I'll let you know how well it worked.
