I always look at games in the Touhou Project and feel a twinge of sadness, as I realize that I will never have the skills necessary to beat them. They may have fantastic music, a colorful cast of characters, and just have solid production values for doujin releases, but the fact that they are bullet hell shooters mean that I will freeze up and crash into something the moment the first wave of bullets come at me. I mean, look at some of these levels! It's crazy!

So it is with a heavy heart that I pass on to you the information that the sole creative force, ZUN, has announced a new entry in the series: Yousei Daisenou ~ Touhou Sangessei, a.k.a. Touhou 12.8 ~ Great Fairy Wars. The game is a continuation of the manga Touhou Sangessei ~ Strange and Bright Nature Deity, which was written by ZUN and drawn by Makoto Hirasaka. The story will be about the ice fairy Cirno declaring war on the Three Mischevous Fairies: Sunny Milk, Luna Child, and Star Sapphire.

The game will be classic bullet hell madness, though it seems that Cirno has an ability to freeze bullets in addition to dodging them, which might at least help me survive one level in the game. The game will be released at Comiket 78, which runs from August 13-15. If your reflexes are better than mine, I'm sure a fan translation will soon follow. See more pics on KUN's blog.
