I haven't seen Gundam 00, but I'm certainly not going to vote for Code Geaas. From what I gather 00 isn't exactly great either so... is there any way to make them both lose?

Well, putting aside that both shows' second seasons were almost entirely garbage, I'm going to look at what each of them were good at first:

Actually.... I can't really think of anything in particular...so back to the bashing:

Gundam 00 was a Gundam show with characters designed by the artist who did Loveless...needless to say, the yaoi influence was exponentially greater than the amount spawned by Wing's fangirls... It took virtually every element it had from another Gundam show and mercilessly maimed them. The Innovators were basically Coordinators that regular humans could evolve into becoming by inhaling enough minovsky particles and getting high off them. Oh, did I mention they make you fall into the same category as Bridget (Setsuna being the exception)? Seriously, someone name ONE innovator that was male that was unmistakably male looking. Now for the important stuff, the plot. Heh...plot... the first season laid a fair setup. Basically you had Celestial Being as a more ambitious Mithril (see FMP) that seemed like they could use a little more backup. The Gundam pilots would fly around and fight everyone in little battles all over the place, but then all of the sudden the Trinities show up. I can almost pin it to that very moment that the show started to drop noticeably downhill. The instant they're introduced things start to go "Wtf?". Between Nina shooting that family wedding for NO reason whatsoever except to give Louise an excuse to go and join the army so she could become the next Four/Stella and the whole Veda backplot, the show really started to lose its focus. They managed to get so wrapped up in all these subplots that they didn't even get around to addressing the ORIGINAL PLOTLINE of trying to stop armed conflict until the last handful of episodes, and in such a shody attempt at it I might add, that ignoring the plethora of new mobile suit/armor designs that are spawned between then it would STILL reek of Gundam Seed Destiny. I mean seriously, how many of you still remember that whole subplot of the AEU's leader turning out to be one of the badguy's and using their goldy ship thing in the big finale of the first season? It was completely pointless!!! The second season threw just about EVERYTHING out the window that happened in the first season, opting for the Zeta timejump option instead.
There are so many other things that ticked me off, such as the pointless (fake) death of that Patrick character who even as cool as he was they didn't even really develop so his death was meaningless, killing off the bridge bunnies just so we could get new ones, and then there's the little stuff - how many of you noticed the narrator's voice in the first season is also Ribbon's? I know that's really nothing compared to all the other problem's I've mentioned, but I couldn't get the thought out of my head of if the guy who said "In the year After Colony 195, human beings leave Earth to begin a...etc." at the beginning of every episode turned out to be Duke Dermail later on or something nuts...
And then there's that stupid subplot of an ending! They find Veda, ok, but whoa! it's got a friggin huge beam cannon built into it (that's new...not) and thousands upon thousands of suicide mobile suits, that ALL have Trans Am capability... I mean, come on, use your head writers. If Celestial Being had all this power in the first place, why the hell didn't they use it to rid the world of conflict at the beginning of Season 1!?



MOVING ON TO CODE GEASS

Code Geass had so many faults with me, but for the most part, the first season was quite good. Gundam 00's first several episodes were pretty good, but Code Geass managed to keep it up for pretty much the whole first season without falling apart on itself. Scripting for the battles was creative, utilizing various different environments and tactics to keep up this idea that Lelouch was basically the Light Yagami of the mech world. The whole back plot of his family and being exiled, etc., was good to get the show started and give him reasons to fight, but eventually I found it to be a bit overdone. The mech designs left a bit to be desired, but they kept them fairly reasonable until the second season when it devolved into "Oh yeah, well I've got the Freedom" "Oh yeah? well I've got the Destiny" "Oh YEAH!?! Well I've got the Strike Freedom!"...power levels rising, blahblahblah, you get the idea. The one thing this show got right however, even through some of the dumbest subplots, was that the characters maintained their original objectives almost entirely throughout. Lulu all through season one is focusing on taking over/defeating Britannia and reaching his father, and even some of the annoying subplots that showed up were at least obviously extensions of that ultimate objective. Even through the horrible second season that seems to remain true. Plus, unlike 00, it actually manages to actually pull off an ENDING...as in, a REAL ending.


So, on that note, I think I'm gonna shock a lot of you at least a little bit, I'm voting for Code Geass. Because at least it's first season was verifiably good till the end, and the rest of it didn't suck so much. Hell, even in the bad parts, at least Code Geass was FUN to make fun of.

Also, if any of you ever try to argue that debate that seems to popping up how 00 is just like Wing...come talk to me.

For me, Code Geass is the win by a large stretch. While 00 had some nice ladies to look at, they didn't develop characterwise like the ones in CG did. TO ME. :) Anyways, Code Geass always had me doing the WTF look at the TV and also had me doing "Oh no he did NOT!" at the screen. Both pluses in my eyes. Plus CC and Kallen are HAWT.

Code Geass definitely. Though all 2nd season was absurd I still found myself upset at the end. Plus like Heero said, it actually had a set-in-stone ending! Yay!

This is so true. Both second seasons just brought the shows down (although I did watch them for entertainment purposes). You can't say that Setsuna loving his gundamu wasn't funny.

That being said, I think Code Geass wins the battle in terms of first season while Gundam 00 wins in terms of second season (although both second seasons completely blew). As Lelouch was the more interesting main character and reminded me of Light at least for the first few episodes, I think I'm going with Code Geass.

Actually I haven't seen Gundam 00 (though if it's anywhere near the same as SEED Destiny I don't know if I really want to...) so I have to vote for Geass (even if the second season SUCKED).

The back story for Gundam 00 set my teeth on edge, with its completely warped view of history and current affairs, the creators should really pick up a history book sometime or watch CNN.

The only part I found so bad that it was funny in 00 was the episode that came out some time around Valentine's day that at the end, all the pilots and some main characters were thinking out loud the names of the people they were in love with, and then Tieria says Veda and Setsuna says Gundam...that part gave me a good laugh. The rest of it was just painful GSD flashbacks...

Both series have incredibly girly guys so I'm gonna assume that's whats being voted on, which mecha has girlier guys. If I were to follow the constraints of the poll it would be Gundam 00, but I hated that show, I never got past a few episodes. Code Geass season 1 wasn't horrible but I didn't love it. I have yet to see the second season. My vote goes to Five Star Stories. THe main character in that make the male characters in 00 look masculine.

Even though I didn't like the second season much (for both series actually), the most part of Code Geass' first season was good enough.

I'm voting for Code Geass simply because I felt that that part was the best of both series.

Anyways. I have to pick Code Geass on this one. I like both shows in their own ways, but Geass really had me WTFing a lot.

A vote for Geass, but let me explain. This show was wild, fast and unpredictable. Twists and changes of direction came so suddenly and ridiculously that it seemed like the writers just pulled them right out of their asses. You never knew where things were headed, and nothing was sacred.

Includes, but not limited to: mechas, magical girl, kimono princess, regular princess, sympathy cripple, instrumentality, harem comedy, just as planned, everyone-in-the-same-school, and a light sprinkling of yuri and inexplicable objectophilia. Help list the ones I missed please! They mixed all of this and more together and STILL came out relatively fine. For this display of sheer genre recklessness and audacity, I offer my commendation and respect.

R2's unfortunate decision to shift the focus away from chaotic mindgames and social-political tangos to themes, philosophy, and relationships disappointed many, but I wasn't too affected. I just saw it as another experiment by the creators to see just how much they could get away with, a gamble that cost the show some of its former glory.

I won't deny it, Geass definitely pushes the limit of ridiculous in a bad way more than once. From Spinzaku to Ultra Gurren to that one goofy-ass Valentine's Day episode, the show ain't perfect. And I wouldn't take it any other way.

Finally, a debate where I have to choose between which one sucked less in comparison to Gurren Lagann! (because let's be honest, it eats them both for breakfast and still has enough room to punch out a universe with its bare hands)

But really, I'm going to have to go with Code Geass. Both were huge letdowns for me, but Code Geass wasn't a letdown until the last-half of the second season. Gundam 00 however let me down from the 3rd episode. I swear, if the next Gundam has even more gender-ambiguous characters, I may just give up on the franchise.

Wow. This place really confuses me. Almost everyone I've talked to on Gundam boards loved the ending of 00 and really liked the series... it was certainly much better than Code Geass, or the previous 2 Gundams.

I love both shows BUT i gonna have to vote for Gundam 00 cause i seem to be one of the very few people to think it ROCKED! Having plot twists in a series is a good thing but Code Geass takes it to ridiculously insane levels...i simply couldn't follow it, does not compute. I either have to read additional blogs or watch the episode a further 5 times to get it....watching anime shouldn't be this hard! Fuck, Tieria in a dress was easier to handle than some of Code Geass's twists.

Code Geass. Granted, I haven't seen 00's second season yet, but I still prefer Geass's environment to that of 00. After the midway point of Geass's first season, I kept coming back week after week in excitement and can't wait for the next episode, something that tells me I'm really into a series. Similar times that has happened: FMA, Higurashi, Gankutsuou, Gurren Lagann. I think that speaks for itself, even if Geass is totally melodramatic.

Geass im sorry but despite the R2 issues it pulled of a awsome ending and the first season was pure win.i dare say almost everyone was on the edge of their seat if not standing duringthe final 2-3 episodes of season one.

Gundam 00 gets my vote. I loved Code Geass Season 1 but 2 was unnecessary and fell completely apart. Had Geass ended with Season 1, it would have gotten my vote. I enjoyed both Seasons of 00, though Season 1 was better.

Code Geass; despite my hate for so many of those characters, I loved Orange.

Geass was an okay show, but the first season was a mess until the last few episodes, (I've only seen the first half of R2, but it's not much better). It's a decent show, but I can't quite see why so many people go nuts over it.
00 Gundam was a much more solid show, and consistently badass throughout it's entire run.

Well I was thoroughly pleased with the final endings for both shows. They were both set in alternate futures, and the second seasons followed the rule of 'sucky sequel'.

Both shows also broke the 'speed of science'
Code Geass had 2 series of Knightmares within 7 years or whatever the time difference was for the takeover and when the show started. Then in R2 it was like every episode there would be a very expensive tweak on each frame on each side!
The first season of Gundam found the nations crying over the loss of like 10 MS because it was half their nation's annual income, then the second season had a new GN-X or MA almost every episode! Within 4 years of the plot jump, the Earth Federation (not a seed reference, no) had built not one but TWO orbital ion cannons!

Nevertheless, the action stayed awesome throughout.

I vote for Geass. The plot for the first season engaged me and I liked the lower distinct gender to ambiguous gender ratio.

Of course, neither of these could match the visual quality of Macross Frontier or the pure godliness of Gurren Lagann.

So here is where Gundam 00 gets points. After the carnage which was the end of the first season, we get the wonderful surprise of only one death.

i give my vote to 00, i loved geass to death but the ending was rushed, and yeah 00 had a crappy start in my opinion for the first season, but it ended with me wanting more, while geass messed up its story by extending it thus making the story incoherent, while 00 actually flowed quite fluidly.

As for my vote I'm going to have to give it to the show that actually kept me interested in it from teh first episode (even though the second season pissed on everything that made it good). Code Geass wins but that's like saying sweaty socks taste better than poo.

Vote goes to Code Geass. I enjoyed the first season and managed to stomach most of the second season, which is better than I can say for sitting through one episode of 00. Watched some on Sci-Fi one time and the scene didn't have shading. Yikes.

Code geass I have seen both liked both but the plot of code geass stayed true and had fun plot twists. 00 was ruined with the random movie that was stupid in my opion.
