When They Cry, by far. They atmosphere they set up is immpeccable. The suspense crawls inch by inch up your spine with each successive episode.

I'll give School Days credit, the murders at the end came as more of a twist when compared to WTC as it kinda took you off guard. It starts off as generic harem at first, then dwelves further and further into fucked-up territory until the gruesome climax. However, the show has a fatal weakness that WTC severly overcomes.

The characters.

WTC's characters are all charming and likeable, which makes the evil innards that inhabit each character all the more tense. I hated every single one of School Days' characters with the exception of Kotonha. Sekai was a delusional whore, whiles Makoto blatnetly uses his Harem Powers for evil. And at the end even Kotonha had turned into a monster. The show was filled to the brim with horrible, selfish, and down right bad people that would give Gantz a run for ti's money. In all actuality the ending is the only thing that makes me even like the damn show. Any other climax would have been bullshit. Otherwise it was just twelve episodes of Kotonha being tourtoured.

It's a bad sign when you cheer at the death of your MAIN CHARACTERS. Fuck them all.

Higurashi, hands down for the win

Higurashi no Naku Koro ni by far. Kai is doing an amazing job pulling the all of the pieces of the earlier chapters too!

In fact, I rank it third on my list of favorite shows of 2007:
1) Gurren Lagann
2) Lucky Star
3) Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai

I'm sure I'll be in the minority this week, but I saw the finale of School Days and I have to vote for it XD

Higurashi, for whatever reason, has just never interested me @_@ I tried to watch the first episode of Kai, and I was so happy when I realized it was going to be a recap since I never watched the first season...but then it just kept TALKING...and TALKING...and I could never quite get myself to watch anymore.

The main draw in Kai that I find, is the way it pulls together and builds on the first show. I can definitely understand someone not liking it if they haven't seen the first series.

Plus, it's very different from it's predecessor in a lot of ways, and it's got a very different "feel" to it.

School Days. The ending had me jumping up for joy that they were finally together and Makoto got what he deserved for being such a bastard. I hate him more than Kira Yamato.

School Days for me. It's one of those series that comes along once every blue moon, if you've ever had a case of love confusion, you can relate to Makoto, at least in the beginning, and then you either want to root for him, or kill him.

Plus, Higurashi had blood and gore the entire run, while School Days took you by surprise with that sudden "Holy...shit..." ending, even we players of the game didn't see THAT coming.

Well, I love School Days, but the vote falls on Higurashi anyway.

School Days is good. It's dramatic, gets really intense halfways through and ultimately does not disappoint. Mainly because of what Seifersythe has already said: That intensity is thanks to the intense HATE and ABHORRING of more than half of the main characters. You cheer at the end because, damn, you really just want the fucker to die already. That's the one moment you enjoy the most about the series, and that's it.

Higurashi, on the other hand, is a mystery that keeps building over and over again, until each pieces, each chapter brings a new revelation, a new clue, and forces you to create your own theories, at least until Ep 13 of Kai, and by that moment almost all the facts are laid bare for everyone to see. Even so, by that moment you want all the main characters to make it through the Endless June alive, you want them to defeat the grim fate set upon them. It draws you in, and ultimately that's what keeps you watching.

My vote goes to Higurashi, then, because Oyashiro-sama made me do it.

The image makes me think of the video on Nicovideo of the replacement film showing nature scenes that was shown instead of the last School Days episode. On Nicovideo it was just filled with marquee text saying "nice xyz" where xyz was whatever was on screen... (don't have the link at hand right now..)

Anyway, I'm voting for School Days =)

Man, Makoto, that fuck. It's not often that a character that you think deserves a horrible death gets it. And that the series tops whatever you were thinking. Not only was he stabbed to death by one chick, he was decapitated postmortem by another chick. And his dead head is trapped in the middle of the sea. Overkill ftw.

Higurashi, because I haven't seen School Days. Also, because the story is so gripping and as I watch it, I wonder why the characters are commiting these horrible deeds. It's not often that I ponder about the cause behind gruesome violence in anime.

I don't usually watch harem animes, and I thought this was going to be one, all fluffy and nice. But this must one of the most depressing animes I've seen. You can kindof relate to Makoto, but by the end you realise that everyone is evil. Even that friend of Makoto's. I think that it would've been nicer if everyone died. I don't know where I'm going with this so I'll just repeat, School Days.
