Tuesday Otaku Debate: Light vs. L photo

Last time, on Japanator Ball Z...an epic fight was going on between fans of Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z. So epic, it spanned two weeks. Now, to charge up for 15 episodes before I release the results. Thankfully, I used my ultimate speed and brought that down to 15 minutes.

Now that Death Note has aired here on Adult Swim, it's time for the final Death Note debate. Who reigns supreme in your heart: The God of the his new world, Light, or the crime fighting, homo-erotic L? Take whatever you want into consideration, whether it be bishi-ness or awesomeness of figures. Who should have come out on top in Death Note? And please, no spoilers guys. Not everyone's finished the manga yet.

Yagami Light was a kick ass character which made the series great, I hated L every moment in that series and when he finally died I was sooooooooooo Happy!
 


i thought no spoilers here.. i saw the anime and read the manga already.. but jeez. what about the other ppl.. =__=

You must give credit to both characters as they are equivalent geniuses. Only L could fight on the same level as Light and vice-versa. But Light proved out to be the winner. Intellectually, I think L is really the one who won in the end as his allegations and evidences lead to Light's demise. In the philosophical stand point, which one was right and which one was wrong is a matter of perspective. Order vs Chaos basically. But you soon realize that L was trying to bring order upon Kira's killing spree, but on the other end, Light was trying to bring order on the chaos created by criminals. Which is wrong, which is right? You be the judge... Which is sexier? Oh that I can answer: L.

I agree with Gia. Light was too.....underdeveloped and uninteresting, since all he ever did was plan stuff...

L on the other hand was just plain cool. He had cool quirky things about him that made him very original and different as a character, and overall he was simply a lot more likable as a character since he didn't go on mad killing sprees to accomplish his goals.

Only masochistic or sadistic people vote for Light.

My vote goes to "KAMIIIIII" himself, Light Yagami. He is one of the most perfect examples of psychological contortion I've ever seen, TV, anime, or otherwise. That's one of things that gets me interested in a character. I won't go into detail, though.

One more for L. One of the most unique hero characters all around.

I think Light was the first time a lot of people saw a villain/true anti-hero as the protagonist. He's pretty much the Tyler Durden of anime.

Both are utterly brilliant, but in terms of pure genius, I must give far more credit to L. After all, sitting like that increases deductive abilities by 40%.

And with everything already being spoken, let's just say that we know what happens when L isn't around. The story just dies. Painfully.

Kami-sama Light! Because even if L is a great and unique character, I find myself, just like Ryuk, to be watching, wanting to see just how far Light will go. You both want him to win and fall hard on his ass at the same time. That's what makes Death Note a great show to the very end!

It was obvious Light's ego would be his undoing when he took it upon himself to challenge L in the first place. Both were pretty much on equal footing as far as intellect goes, Light just got dealt a better hand to work with.
 


L! I can somehow still live everyday as the last volume of DN sits on my shelf unread. Ill go read it now. Here I go...
 


I say L. His quirkiness is cute, his blunt level-headedness is astounding, and his intelligence...well, you know. Mello and Near don't even deserve to be called distant shadows of L.

Unfortunately, Light does get predictable at times, while L is typically a step ahead.

Also, L represents real justice, while Light is a hungry power crazed dictator.
 


I like both characters. Its interesting to see how Light/Raito/Kira/GodoftheNewWorld changes throughout the series. Both are great characters that are not completely strait forward...for the first half of the series anyway, not a huge fan after that :p.

so it can never be spelled or mean LIGHT unless you are referring to it in english. its just a play on words. like L's name. its not really LOW-LIGHT, its Lawliet. jeebus. you must be hardcore dub fan =p

I'm going with L. Light looks really cool and I totally would have voted for him before reading the final volume. When Near exposed him for the scumbag he truly is, that impression stayed firmly put in my mind. No amount of cool posturing can change that, deep down, Light and his ideals are pathetic.

Plus, L's personality fascinates me.
