Tuesday Otaku Debate: Tifa Lockhart vs Aerith Gainsborough

Tuesday Otaku Debate: Tifa Lockhart vs Aerith Gainsborough photo

I know, I know--it's Thursday. I need to apologize for not having these results up sooner. I hope we didn't keep you waiting too long, though. Last week's debate was certainly a fierce one. The results were incredibly close, remaining neck and neck through out the week. While many of you thought Mio and Mikuru were going to be the first one to crack, a few more of you seemed to think Tsukasa might go first--which I personally agree with, by the way. I'd say it was a pretty fair discussion though. Perhaps if more people had a chance to watch K-On!, the results would be a bit different.

Mio Akiyama - 16 votes

Mikuru Asahina - 16 votes

Tsukasa Hiiragi - 19 votes

Hit the jump for this week's epic debate!

Final Fantasy 7 was an amazing accomplishment. The scale, characters, music and story managed to capture the hearts of many gamers. Two of them in particular have sparked a debate that's continued for over a decade. That is of course, Tifa or Aeris. They each have their merits, their pros and cons, and we're going to sort them out for you.

Aerith, as any true Otaku know her, made men swoon with her cute, straight forward, and honest demeanor. Sure she may not have been as useful in a battle, but I'd say that's pretty arguable. For example, her limit break can save you mp while grinding for long periods of time in the train graveyard. Despite her childlike attitude, she really knew what she wanted and wasn't afraid to put it out there, and I really admire that. Maybe she didn't win all of your hearts, but like it or not, many of you were shocked to see her meet an untimely end. Unfortunately this led to the dead Aerith cosplay, which was only funny the first time. The number of Aerith shrines floating around the net leads me to believe that she was missed more than not. Still, she has to earn some sympathy points for that, right?

Tifa is less outspoken, despite her "kick ass" demeanor. It'd be wrong for me to overlook the fact that she's definitely more endowed, but much like Chiyo-chan, Aerith is "still in demand" so to say, so I'm not sure how much of an advantage that really is. If it wasn't already apparent from playing the game, Advent Children definitely shows that Tifa can definitely kick some serious ass. That makes her a knock out in more ways than one, but is she really better than Aerith? I say we put that to a vote.

Fear not, you shouldn't have to wait until next Thursday to hear these results. We'll try to have the next debate on Tuesday, promise.
