Because it's the best Gundam series with the most memorable mobile suits, characters, and places. The Story, Action, and even English Voice Acting are still fantastic to this day and I would like to see the show redrawn with a combination of hand drawn and CGI. Or at least redone in style like Gundam Unicorn so it would be in HD.

I would have said Evangelion as well, but those 4 movies pretty much got that covered.

Mobile suit Gundam 0079. While its not the best one, it is awesome, and it is the source of all Gundam! igloo, and war in the pocket were just offensive to watch lol. and I cant even get started on Seed. literally i cant watch it. anyways im rambling. While yes 08th MS is the best one... it doesnt deserve a remake before the original. i think its had dibs for 30 years lol.

You're Under Arrest! Season one

The first season was awesome (and better was the OVA), but sadly the animation aged poorly making those 51 episodes pretty tough to re-watch. Full Throttle, which aired only 2 years ago, was very well animated so I would LOVE to see a remake of the first season made by those same guys.

I had something in mind, but that new Dirty Pair with JAM Project in it sounds to boss!

I personally would love to see a remake of G Gundam or 0079!!!

To be honest I'm pretty against anime remakes. In gaming it's different because you can remake it and make most of different a add/remove story chunks and get away with it. Think like FF3 or FFIV on the DS. But in anime it's still going to have to be identical - The Gundam will still be white, red, yellow and blue but Cecil's armour in FFIV could be however it wanted to be.

I personally would love to see Revolutionary Girl Utena remade with modern visuals. Keep as much of the previous staff and voice actors as possible; just update the visuals and lose the repeated animation. Think Utena movie visuals with the awesomeness of the original series.

Second pick would be Rose of Versailles if solely for the reason to get more people to watch that series.

Gunbuster/Aim for the Top

Sure it's a classic, but it's a classic that hasn't aged very well. Just watching Diebuster it's obvious how much better this show could have been had it been made two decades later. Of course, as it stands, Gunbuster and Diebuster contrast eachother as representatives of two seperate generations in anime, and there's definitely some poetry to that. But if I had to pick anything - which is hard because I believe my favourites are just dandy as they are - it would be nice to have the original Gunbuster up to today's standards.

Then again, that would involve Hideaki Anno and Kazuya Tsurumaki, who are supposed to be working on Rebuild of Evangelion.

I can't help but wonder what this poll would have been if Zeta Gundam had TV time.

Anyway, Shin Mazinger was already remade, so I'm all set. I don't know...maybe Tekkaman?

My wish would be to work off the success of Cross Game and get some of Mitsuru Adachi's works updated: Slow Step, H2, Miyuki, and Hiatari Ryoko. Touch is perfect as is but I wouldn't complain if that were to be remade too. Unfortunately I'm probably in the vast minority at Japanator who's even heard of these, so they won't be getting my vote.
I would also love to see a remake of Berserk, Hellsing Ultimate style. Maybe get at least another arc of the manga thrown in to sweeten the deal.

But I'm gonna back up my buddy Stalin and cast my vote to Revolutionary Girl Utena with just better visuals.

Kare Kano - just so they could make an actual ending.

Now and Then, Here and There - just so it could reach a larger audience.

Pokemon - I wish they morphed this into a new version that dares to grow along with its audience. A modern, mature take on what once was a kids show.

Astro Boy - Specifically, an anime version of the Pluto manga. This is undoubtedly going to happen, sooner or later. I can't wait.

I'd go with Berserk.

The manga has advanced some more and although I don't think Miura will see its ending, a proper continuation is needed (and probably a remake, because of important missing characters).

As for director, music, etc. I don't have the slightest. I only know that I'd use a different theme song.

For me, it would have to be Bubblegum Crisis 2032. Not the TV Series (2040), but the original OAV.

GOLDEN BOY ALL THE WAY! I would love to see that amazing show revamped with its intended episode count. Sadly the artist behind the show died right after episode 4 or 5.

Anyway simply for some more toilet fetish comedy and hilarious antics GOLDEN BOY would be the show i pick.

K-On! since it was so great, they need to remake it already. Who cares if it just came out last year.

What anime need to be remade:

1. ZZ Gundam - It got shafted having to end @ 39 eps. (I think). It deserves a mulligan.

2. G-Saviour - PLZ, PLZ no Hollywood remakes!!!! Let the Japanese equivalent of Hollywood deal with it OR make it a 3DCG thing.

3. Steel Angel Kurumi - I'd like to see some full episodes on this one, maybe a series showing what happened before the first series and the OVA.

4. Turn-A Gundam - Almost done seeing it and came across the "Dark History" episode. Maybe redo this Gundam series to make a clear connection to the UC, excluding any connections to non-UC Gundam series.

Probably will have more later, but I doubt it.

Oh! Forgot one

Sailor Moon: Just about any Pretty Cure is good, but bring this series back to show the upcoming generation how a magical girl series should be done (sans tentacles every x episodes).

I agree with Kajun on ZZ Gundam. That show had so much potential to be great (It's UC, how could it not be full of possible win?) but it failed so incredibly hard. I would kill for a good ZZ

I loved ZZ and it's awesome soundtrack. But they could definately have done to expand on the later episodes a bit. Also, release it outside Japan on DVD. Subtitled is fine, I'd just like to watch it in semi-decent quality.

Dance in the Vampire Bund. I just flipped through the manga today and good god almighty. But I appreciate Shaft's efforts nonetheless and will remain their faithful fan.

I'm glad the industry has already tackled Negima, but I can't have enough Negima. I'm also glad the industry has already tackled Nanoha, but I can't have enough Nanoha.

I'd also love to see the first season of Clannad get remade like the OVAs with the routes separated instead of intertwined. One fault of the OVAs is that they're simply too short to bring in that feeling of constant repetition and the disruption of it, a theme very apparent in the visual novel, especially the Tomoyo route.

The Minami-ke sequels come to mind too. They were too bland. Comparisons made to the better paced first season do not aid in the quality of the experience.

I think "BLAME!" deserves a proper anime series, the OVA was just a montage of random scenes in the manga and was more about showing of inspiring visuals than telling a story.

I would also love to see Berserk remade but lets face it, almost every seinen manga adapted into an anime is doomed to have a cliffhanger ending. At least the videogame attempts to pick up were the series left off.

@ Mandril: I don't think Now and Then, Here and There needs to be remade so much as it needs to be pimped out more. The original series was very successful at telling a such an emotionally driven and heartbreaking story that I also wished more people would watch it. I was pleasently surprised that both ADV and Funimation tried to keep the license alive in the US after CPM died.

As some people have already said, I wouldn't mind another anime version of Berserk. It would be very hard to do it justice considering how much detail goes into the manga panels, but it definitely has an interesting storyline.

well remakes tend to make things more awesome and refined then the first, ak recent fml, so i'd have to go with pokemon, hear me out here, if they made the plot actually non-ciclical and used the first season as a basis they could get a damn good story outta it, but i'd have to be like non-children oriented, hell explosions, pokemons bassicly legal cockfighting >>

Ranma 1/2, To Heart, You're Under Arrest, Revolutionary Girl Utena, and Maison Ikkoku for starters.

I would say Yu Yu Hakusho, but the anime is already perfect and messing around with it would just make it worse.

Berserk does not need a remake, it needs a sequel to follow up the story of the manga. As for the music, a hard rock song by B'z for the opening and a sad ballad by Nakashima Mika for the ending would be perfect.

As a remake, my vote goes to any and all older Gundam series. They really could use some CGs and new effects.

I really don't think that any of the 90's shows need revisiting. Animation has come a long way since then, it's true. But Cowboy Beebop holds its own very well against Macross Frontier.

I could easily see any number of these 90's properties just getting rebuffed with 'better' special effects scenes that look out-of place spliced into the original show. (Look at the remastered Star Trek or Star Wars if you need an example)

What really needs a mulligan are shows that are so old they cannot appeal to modern audiences because the culture has moved too far.

I think that they should redo the original Macross with the production values and writers of Frontier, and with pop stars to boot. That would open the whole beginnings of Macross up to a new audience. Of course, they'd need to wrestle the license away from Harmony Gold... but that's another matter.

Yeah, absolutely. The anime is excellent and timeless as it is. It's never going to retroactively reach the big audience it deserves though. They need some sort of excuse to re-release it and make a big deal about it.
A remake is a bit too much, but some sort of remastering (like Dragon Ball Kai) would be a nice excuse to give the show more exposure.

Macross 7

I know it's sort of the bane of the Macross universe, but I think if it were given a second chance to be all re-animated (see what I did there) it could be something awesome! Thing is, the music and voice actors were great. it only fell short in animation comparatively.

I guess I nominate:
- Angel Sanctuary (Because the manga was awesome, but the OVA adaption was merely pathetic.)
- Shamanic Princess (Because the OVA was awesome, and I can't believe it didn't get remade into a TV series in the first place.)
- Please Save My Earth (Because I said so.)

Anything from the early 90s. You can stay with the story and such but can't they just... I dunno... re-animate it?

Rurouni Kenshin would be a nice one to have a sequel since the manga has been completed for a while and we would get to see the final arc of the series animated since the show was canceled during it's filler arc after the Kyoto arc.

I would love to see Gundam X be remade since the original had to be cut down to 39 episodes due to the network changing its time schedule to Saturday mornings. If anything maybe they could do a movie trilogy like they did with Zeta Gundam in 2005 and fix the elements that were rushed.

It would be nice to see ZZ Gundam remade as a movie trilogy, except with the dark tones of the second half throughout the three movies. Although I haven't seen it yet, I hear that it started off as a kids show and then it became dark like Zeta due to low ratings.

Dangaioh should be remade from scratch, the ova itself had a good premise and art direction but the show ended up being a disappointment at the end. The three episodes of the ova felt like an intro to an even bigger story and its unfortunate that it wasn't. To think a show with genetically enhanced psychics that pilot a super robot that can also use psychic abilities while fighting off a group of space pirates that have enslaved good amount of the galaxy would flop. The show had such a good potential so perhaps its time for it to redeem itself and JAM Project would be a nice addition to sing the opening. If we could see Gainax or Sunrise do the animation, then we might see a greater potential with the franchise.

@Jon Snyder- I have been meaning to check out Dirty Pair for a while, should I just stick with the original or is Flash also good? I love how JAM Project makes almost anything look awesome whenever they sing an opening for a show or game. Sorry for going off topic.

I'd vote for Haruhi season 2.

Why it needs a remake:

* K-On faces.
* Endless Eight (TOO MUCH!)
* Boring intro/ending

What I'd put in the remake:

* Disappearance (what else!?)
* Books 7, 8 and 9
* A new para-para dance :D

I want to see an updated Ranma 1/2, and Dominion: Tank Police. An Akira series based heavily on the manga would be very welcome, as well.

Oh, and GoLion. And a 3-d "Twilight Of The Cockroaches".

While I'm tempted to throe my hat in with the MS Gundam crowd, I personally would love to see the original Macross re-done. The animation has aged pretty badly, and seeing what Kawamori has done with Frontier I have no doubt it'd be beautiful. If they could make it so that Lynn Minmei isn't a totally hate-able character would be nice. Also, a new theme song is a must. Either something more sweeping or more GAR.

I'm unsure about sharing my opinion given that I haven't seen enough of the old series. I'll give it a shot.

Rurouni Kenshin: Thanks for reminding me Crimson Blade. It's a crime against humanity that the Jinchu arc wasn't animated. If you only accept one vote, make it this one.

Irresponsible Captain Tylor: Elaborate on the side characters some more. The original was a little too restrained, but I don't know how to respond to that.

Great Teacher Onizuka: For the same reason as Kenshin.

Lupin III: Castle of Cagliostro in particular. All it needs is a little sprucing up in the animation.

(PS: Recent anime remake recommendation: Narutaru. It was unfinished.)

Some of the stuff I like was already remade, and wasn't good (Armitage III, for instance). Other series get higher production values and movies over time but run out of decent storytelling (I'm looking at you Kenshin!).

One thing I'd love is Bubblegum Crisis, the original, with updated technologies [car fax machines???? lol] and decent animation. It's such a good show, and everyone who worked on it became very respected in their own rights. There's just no way to duplicate that collection of talent. It just looks cheap, and ends abruptly since they ran out of money.

And yes, I know about BGC2040. That's its own thing.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say a remake, or completion as my brother would say, of Guyver would be at the top of my list. I mean I liked just about everything about it, cleaning up the animation, maybe giving it a new theme. Hell just hand it to the guys who did Vandred and I'd be pretty happy.

TTGL, that 4th episode just wasn't up to snuff!

For some reason I'd love to see a Kimagure Orange Road remake, although I'm not sure how they could make it better. It's a seminal anime work in the love triangle shounen anime tradition that lead to the modern harem anime and has significant influence on alot of romance anime of all types. Madoka deserves to be animated using our more advanced methods and I'm sure Hikaru could be made cuter (and probably would be made more moe). It is an interesting enough universe and you could build up some of the more secondary characters in remake. I do worry a remake would only add in panty flashes and too much tsundere (original Madoka is at a nice enough tsundere level as it is).

gricomet: KOR looks kind of rough by today's standards, but I still think its animation is pretty nice. They do a lot of shots of the type you don't see a lot, like running where you can see peoples' feet, and the series definitely has a cinematic eye about it. I kind of bristle at the association of KOR with harem anime (Kyosuke's only between two girls, for crying out loud, and he had a clear preference from early on). I really like the series, but I don't know that I'd want to see it remade, especially since I'm sure it would be updated with modern tropes. KOR is one of the core series I think of when I think of how pre-2000s romance anime smokes most of the more "modern" series in that regard.

Anyway...

If I had to take one answer, I'll follow Crimson Blade and Parasepsis in saying that I want to see the Jinchu Arc of Rurouni Kenshin animated. I don't really think the TV series warrants re-making (its only great fault was some filler-heavy parts), but the Jinchu Arc takes up a third of the manga's length, and it gives closure to a lot of elements that make the series feel much more complete. Of course, Saito's VA passed away since then, and I know I'd miss that cool voice. But...if I could turn one wish into actual animation, this would be it.

Other notables:

I'd like to see the Five-Star Stories movie remade...as an epic-length TV series. FSS has an awesome, fairly complex plot and some truly out-there designs, but because the comics aren't that easy to get ahold of outside Japan, it's not a well-known series. But seriously, it's epic, and awesome.

I'd also like to see Violinist of Hamelin remade. The anime crew did a strange but great thing, in diverging heavily from the manga (which is largely a comedy) to tell a dark, gripping story that I think just might be my favorite tragedy in anime. The greatest weakness is the incredibly shoestring budget, which makes half the series feel like the characters talking over large camera pans of still shots. Get this series a respectable budget, use the anime's version of the story as a base, and I guarantee this series could get some good recognition.

@ CaptainBright, all I can say is "Strength feeds off strength and grows stronger!"

Also @ those who want a animation of the Jinchu arc of Kenshin, watch Trust and Betrayal, those Ova's summed up the best/most important parts of the Jinchu arc.

I would rather see shows inspired by something I remember fondly, or created as side stories within the same world. I don't really see the point of remaking it aside from the dollars that would for sure fall into their laps from devoted fans.

Remake Outlaw Star please. I wouldn't mind if they remade Super Dimension Fortress Macross, Gunbuster 1 and 2, Ghost Sweeper Mikami, Doraemon, and Gachaman. I'm an idiot for still waiting for an Excel Saga 2 :D

I was depressed when I found out that America cut about half the series off just for to make it "kid-friendly", and that I watched less then half of that >< and I'll type it out once more so I won't be mistaken.

@ittoujuu I agree with most of your points and I do think the art in Kimagure Orange Road is lovely. So I agree that it very good the way it is. However, I'd still be interested in seeing a modern interpretation although I would worry it might just be adding the pointless anime "excess of our age" rather than taking advantage of better tech.

While KOR isn't technically a harem (2 girls and all that) and didn't intend to be one as such I think alot of element of it are tropes in harem anime as it exists today. Just a few major ones

1. Indecisive lead can't completely decide between girls
2. Girl who is Tsundere as one love interest (Madoka)
3. Different girl who is more cute and girly (Hikaru)
4. Girl who is very open with her feelings and pushy about them to the male leads often exasperation.
5. Important character being "new in town" causes romantic entanglements to arise (The male lead in KOR, more often the main love interest in harem anime)
6. Love Triangle that isn't really needed as male lead clearly prefers one girl over another (harem makes in a more complicated shape, but is usual lots of girls that have no chance b/c lead loves the main love interest, usually at the onset).

7. Romance anime focused on the male perspective as opposed to shojo focus on female perspective (other manga existed previously in time but not nearly as much anime with that focus)

I see KOR as popularizing alot of these tropes/foci.

I wanna add another! Saint Seiya (original series and not the Hades arc).

Another vote for re-doing Super Dimensional Fortress Macross, along with Macross 7.

A Lupin the 3rd re-make would be absolutely wonderful (if done right...)
