It's a tough call. Zelda already had a cartoon in the 80s, and Metroid already had a comic series in Nintendo Power. Samus' suit reminds me of Bubblegum Crisis hardsuits, and I'd like to know more about her. But the Zelda series has hundreds more fun and unique characters, making opportunities for cameos and character development.

So, Zelda.

Definitely The Legend of Zelda. if it was done right, it would be amazing.

If they're gonna make hot, sexy, effeminate anime character, I would want that to be Samus.

you know either one would be good, but it would seem like a Metroid anime would be kind of boring due to a lack of characters other than the metroids and other monsters (I havent really played metroid since I had it for my game boy so I'm not all that up on the story, I could be wrong about the character thing). So my vote goes to Zelda mostly because it could be really great if done right.

As others have said even though we have already seen an animated Zelda... I think if done right Zelda would indeed be better. There's just more to work with.

As an anime, Zelda would have a far better storyline.. Which as a plus, Zelda already has many anime-like attributes making the conversion much easier without compromising essential parts of his Character..

Personally I'm not a fan of Zelda the games all seem to similar to me. So I would have to say Metroid. Not to mention the fact that Metroid has a more interesting character where Link is a non talking elf boy constantly saving zelda. Samus is a Female bounty hunter trying to save the universe. To me that just seems far more interesting. Not to mention Zero Suit Samus is already anime looking if you ask me.

I can see both as great anime series. But metroid would be far more interesting i think. the zelda anime would be rather predictable, plot wise. But a metroid one would have to be inventive and creative in some parts.

It could be like a cross b/w Alien(the movie w/ sigoreney weaver), cowboy bebop, and claymore.

What doesnt sound good in that mix. I mean come on the anime would be full of suspense and high octane action @ the same time....

Aw, I'm disappointed, what's with all the desire for a Zelda anime? Has everyone already forgotten the horror that was, "WELL EXCUUUUUUUSE MEEEEE PRINCESS"? I don't know, for me, it doesn't seem like it would work out. I mean, Link never talks, so I can't imagine a single voice actor in the world who could play Link believably.

At least for Metroid, Samus has shown the ability to comprehend the english language, including both writing AND narrating her own story (in text form of course). I really don't see what's so cliche about Metroid when compared to Zelda either. If Metroid is a "boring sci-fi story", then Zelda is a "cliche fantasy adventure". Regardless of which was an anime, both would need A LOT of creative liberties to make either of them even relatively feasible as an anime. Besides, imagine a Metroid anime produced by IG Productions. If that's not an awesome thought, I don't know what is.

So Metroid for me. In the very least, watching Samus Aran in action would be far more enjoyable.

This is an official mini story about the early years of Samus. This explains why she became an orphan, why the Chozos picked her up and raised her so become the Samus we now know. It's a nice read. They could totally make an Anime out of that mini story by expending it.

Zelda for anime. Metroid for pretentious mostly dialogue free artsy sci fi action film. And if that subsubsubgenre doesn't exist, it SHOULD, specifically for the Metroid film. THAT's how pretentious and artsy it is.
Having said that, if said Metroid film was every created, I'd totally go see it.

Neither. A Link that talks would not be Link, and it would be a necessity for an anime, so pass on that. And Metroid is (supposed to be) all about isolation and confrontation miles away from any help, so Samus would only end up talking to herself except for the rare communications with other people before and after a mission.

My choice, then, is that both of these stay as games and we're treated to something that isn't another sub-standard anime adaptation of a video game.

I think anime based on games are a bad idea by default. Most of them aren't very special and those which are considered good don't have a whole lot to add to the game. Tales of the Abyss is nice and all, but what's the point if you've played the game? Fanservice, in the pure sense of the word, yes. But I'd rather see something new happen. Same goes for the upcoming Valkyria Chronicles anime, though that should've been an anime in the first place. You know what I mean I've you've played the game.

As for Zelda en Metroid, as others have stated, these two aren't exactly cut out to be an anime, movie, book or anything. Maybe we should just accept that anime and other media rely too heavily on actual storytelling, which is something that videogames lack. Oh and I mean that. Final Fantasy VI for example had a great story as far as games go, but really, it would hardly be acceptable as a movie. Let me ask you this: have you ever seen a (Japanese) videogame with a sincerely great story? One with actual literary merit? They're out there, but they're rare. Far more rare than most gamers would care to acknowledge.

That being said, the only game I can think of right now that could turn out to be a great anime, is Metal Gear Solid. Though a live-action movie written by David Hayter may be even better... and guess what's coming? :D

I'd have to go w/ Zelda on the idea it would the kind of anime that would hit all aspects kinda like FMA did. Metroid would feel slow, and if pulled off would be a slow buildup show like Ergo Proxy but w/ a challenge in the story department.

Off the top of my head, Xenogears has a great story - I've known people who've become 'fans' from merely reading the script. I would consider the stories of most Nippon Ichi games such as Makai Kingdom, Disgaea and Phantom Brave to be similarly 'great', albeit in different ways. Add a large portion of bishoujo games to the list, such as Ever 17 and Tsukihime - I could think of a good 20-30 others I've played which I would classify as having 'great stories', if given the time. I rushed through all of these games, not taking the time to uncover secrets, because I wanted to see how their stories would progress and needed to know how they'd end. Certainly, I'd rank such games as having superior storytelling to 99% of the animes I've watched.

That being said, Zelda and Metroid definitely do not fall into this category. Both would have to be heavily tinkered with to achieve anything resembling the level of plot complexity necessary to make them viable animes. Zelda seems the more likely candidate, since it has an established cast to work with. Metroid does not.

Samus all the way, a Metroid animie would be the most badass thing around, with Zelda they would make it really bad in my mind. But with metroid you could have samus blowing space pirates left and right
