Tuesday Otaku Debate: Who would you rather have as a bodyguard, Spike vs. Kamina photo



Brad is gone, making his pilgrimage into the holy land known as Japan. Along with him went the girly, shojo-like Tuesday Otaku Debates of yesteryear; for now is the time of the manly-man debates. But before we get into that let's look at last week’s results.

Haruhi season 2: 32
Zoku Sayonara Zetsubou-sensei: 9
Porn bot: 2
Zac Bentz: 1

A slaughter, which is sad because we haven’t even seen Haruhi yet. Don’t worry Zetubou-sensei, we still think you are a pretty swell show. I decided to start my reign as Otaku Battle Coordinator off with a bang. Who would you rather have as a bodyguard, Spike from Cowboy Bebop, or Kamina from Gurren Lagann? Both men are legends in their own regard, know how to rumble, and have some pretty interesting personalities. However, each character has their own faults, like Spike can’t fight with a sword, and Kamina does not know how to fire a gun. Who would you trust with your life when things got dangerous?

Let's keep spoilers down to a minimum please.

Kamina, is there even a contest? He doesn't smoke, and I personally don't care if I die with him by my side. I'll believe in the him that believes in me, as such, I'd probably have to fight my own battles though. I still don't care Kamina FTW!

Also, Len, by the time Kamina fought Viral for the first time, he was pretty proficient with the gun when he deflected that awesome meat cleaver with a single shot. Come on he shot the edge of a blade!

Kamina is good but I would prefer Spike. He seems better with a gun and he knows good hand to hand combat.

O god, this is a hard one. But I'm going to have to go with Spike. Because, Kamina would mostly run off on me as a body guard. Both, I am confident could use a gun or sword. (it just spike didn't want to). But as a bodyguard, Spike would keep with you and has more experience.

I'd have to say Spike. Yeah, of course Kamina is the freaking man, but a lot of times a body guard needs to be low key and Kamina is not a low key type of guy.

Kamina died RIGHT AWAY, so it's definitely Spike all the way. Why else? Um, big mouth jock-type vs. cool i-don't-give-a-fuck-type.

I wish we could stop talking about Gurren Lagann. How about Spike vs. Hei from Darker than Black?

Kamina would be a great tour guide of manliness, but not low key enough to be a body guard. Spike is classy and cunning.

well, i think i have to go with Spike.

like others have stated, he isnt dead.

and Kamina will motivate me, but thats pretty much it. I dont need a bodyguard to motivate me, i need them to kick people's asses when the get too close.

If it was just "Who is your favourite character?", I would have picked Kamina. BUT YOU JUST HAD TO GO AND MENTION BODYGUARDS. I feel like I'm betraying Kamina-sama when I say:

I would rather have Spike as a bodyguard.

Kamina being dead is not much of a valid reason for Spike died too.
Kamina had the potential to grow so after a while he should be fine.
But then the main reason is with Spike requires a lot of money.

So I'm going with Kamina.

Also, it's not like I'm leading a dangerous life so he won't be so much of a body guard and more like a buddy. He'll probably do it for free too.111

Heck, any guy who on the brink of death can get himself back up, punch a guy in the face, and then do a bunch of super cool fighting moves is DEFINITELY tougher than some guy who died pretty much fell over and died right when he was shot. Not to mention he'd be able to help me do the impossible and give me ideas on mecha designs! lol.

As for Spike, he probably wouldn't do anything unless you payed him however much they do those sorts of jobs for.

GREAT debate choice! I've got to go with Spike for a bodyguard though. Spike's the kinda guy you can pay and he'll get the job done 100%. Now, if I needed a motivational coach or a sensei, Kamina has the spirit and heart to teach anyone anything.

Spike though... damn, that guy gets the job done.

Though Kamina's legacy lives on. Spike lives longer than Kamina ever did. There's one more reason, he HAD Julia. Kamina only got a kiss from Big Boobs McGee aka Yoko.

That being said, I'm doing an extra vote if that's allowed. For 2008, I CHOOSE YOU PSYDUCK!!!

I gotta say, Kamina is the most badass guy ever, but I think as a bodyguard he'd probably attract much more trouble than he would repel, being the guy that he is.

Spike is my choice, though he may not be as manly as Kamina, he'll definitly get the job done.

As for Spike vs. Hei... It's kind of questionable as to why Hei would be doing work outside of the organization (We're talking Hei during the span of the series not closer to the end or after it) so I don't know why he'd be willing to be a bodyguard. If anything he'd protect you until you fulfilled your purpose and throw you away like trash the next second, as most contractors likely would. I'd still like to stick with Spike for that one. XD

Kamina. Spike seems to be more of an Angel of Death kinda guy. Bad luck just follow him. Kamina however brings nothing but joy, determination, and camaraderie to the table.

Spike. I mean the guy was in a full body cast twice due to gunshots, sword slashes, shrapnel etc., and he still lives. C'MON!

I would be annoyed to no end if I had to be around Kamina.

If it was a competition of manliness Kamina would win, but as for a bodyguard, he'd beat you up as much as the enemy. Spike wins with professionalism and a shiny red plane. Also with much better backing music.
