Furry characters that aren't in fursuits. If you're not going to go all out, don't go at all.

Anything involving men in spandex, notably Sonic and Megaman. If I had to choose one I'd go with Sonic for shear consistency in badness.

Keichi Morisato. There's always some poor slob stuck doing him in a group, and you can never tell it's meant to be him when alone.

i'd say we could just do away with the anthropomorphs and just force them to take their sonic cosplay and softpaw magazines elsewhere.

There's too many things that I think are bad cosplay... I agree 100% with Redzie's comment, though if I had to pick a particular character or group of characters, well....

On second thought, virtually any character or cosplay can look good so long as the person somewhat fits who they're trying to portray, and the outfit has a good amount of effort put into it....there isn't any particular characters that would just look bad as cosplay. For example, even if a rather hot girl decided to do Witchblade, I may find it distasteful to be such an exhibitionist and thus not like it, but I wouldn't say it was bad.

I used to think that way. I used to hate Final Fantasy cosplay with a passion since it was just the same thing over and over a million times...at least narutards had some color other than black... but then one of my friends did a Yuffie cosplay that blew me away.

Plus the thoughts of what would be the most awesome cosplay ever (Squad 7 group cosplay of Valkyria Chronicles w/ Tank cosplay using someone's car) are crowding my head from thinking about bad ones.

I'm going to have to agree with tight, revealing clothes due to the fact that it doesn't work for everyone. You can be a really attractive girl and put on some tight, revealing pieces of clothes that really don't flatter you; and that's a shame. Then there's the horde of people who should have the sense to realize that they in no way are going to pull of the costume; the afore mentioned "fat-chicks".

I just don't like it when people don't cosplay based on body type, either guys or gals.

I'm sick of the L from Death Note cosplays. It's the easiest costume in the world and the people who do it think that they are L so they creep around looking stupid and eating candy.

I agree with costumes that don't fit properly, although, I have seen larger people have great costumes that are tailored to their body properly. I hate seeing someone hanging out of their costume (guys cross playing comes to mind as well as larger people in spandex). Make sure you're covered and decent before you wear it to a con, no one wants to see your stuff.

oh i really hate dragon ball cosplay i haven't seen a good one in a long time. Oh, and i agree, no more nasty overweight skimpy cosplay it makes me gag like for real.

This quickly went from worst CHARACTER to cosplay as to what costumes everyone repeatedly sees and has gotten sick of. There are horrible cosplayers out there who are either out of shape, have no talent when it comes to costuming, or buy their costumes on eBay. There are the sweaty, hairy, pedo-furries whose sole pleasure comes from dressing up. There are also genuinely good cosplayers. Everyone may currently be doing KH, Bleach, Naruto and whatever other fad but you'll find those few people who spend countless hours on their work. These great cosplayers keep us from hating cosplay. Sonic and Felicia are two costumes that no one can do right. Either you get some girl that is way too big for the costume or you get a girl who is the right shape but ends up looking slutty. Sonic really can't be done, even with a giant suit. Items and simple 2D characters should be avoided. It takes no talent to make a cardboard pac-man or a tetris piece.

Choosing one to ban is hard. What I would like to see banned is Rock Lee from Naruto. Every Lee cosplayer I've seen was bad in some way. Anime Boston I'm next to a Lee who reeks of B.O. and has his skin tight spandex. That is the main problem with Lee and other costumes. Spandex. I call for a ban on spandex.

Of course someone will do an awesome Lee that completely refutes stinky AB Lee but for now I vote Rock Lee.

While I agree with the concepts, and that I'm tired of seeing many overdone costumes, there's one word that makes me nearly puke:

Now, I can see bad cosplay as occasionally having comedic value as a saving grace (think Konata's cardboard box). For whatever reason, I can't look at Sonic cosplay and be able to laugh at it. I just can't. So that is who I am voting for. Maybe it's because Sonic's character design doesn't translate well to humans. If someone did a Sonic and removed all of the furry elements, could it work?

As for Felicia, what if someone did Felicia-as-a-nun, like in her ending in the games? That might solve some problems.

Oh, and on the opposite note, I've noticed that Touhou cosplay is generally good. Maybe I'm just lucky?

@Richard the 3rd. Nothing is wrong with buying a good costume off eBay. What happens is that two people get screwed by bad eBay costumes. The person who bought it just lost money, probably too much money, for a subpar product. Then the rest of the world has to look at someone attempting to fit into a costume. Take for instance the Full Metal Alchemist and the large amounts of state alchemist costumes on the market. Some are good but a lot are bad. It is a simple pattern that gets sold for a high price regardless of quality.

I can't sew for beans but I've put together decent costumes with cheap thrift shop visits. I also have a good friend who does make costumes who has made me things. She is far better than I am. She is an art student. Still, the price was reasonable and I helped in any way I could. With help I made the prop, cut and dyed my hair, etc. So I have both bought costumes and made them myself.

I don't dislike store bought costumes. I dislike bad store bought costumes and the people who sell them. There is little wrong with joke costumes, cardboard costumes, crossplay, etc. Again I just have a problem with bad bought costumes. You can make a bad costume. You don't have to buy one.

Oh and people who pass off bought costumes as their own. They piss me off but that has nothing to do with what costumes should be banned.

Just to reiterate, it is ok to be bad at sewing. It is ok to buy your costume. Unfortunately a lot of people lack common sense and give people something to easily mock. Such as Man-Faye. No. Just no.

@Parasepsis-Ezza: I have yet to see a truly bad Touhou cosplay. I think it has something to do with that any person who knows Touhou enough to want to cosplay it has probably been into anime a long while and it's probably not their first cosplay. Plus anyone who's that hardcore would probably put a lot of effort into it too.

Hm, for me it's a tie between Alucard (have yet to see a good one), Kingdom Hearts characters, or L cosplay.

Alucard is just too unreal to pull off. Sure it doesn't sound as hard as others, but then you look at all the little details and you realize "holy shit, I can't do that and I'm definitely not badass to pull that off."

Kingdom Hearts in general just because I've seen too much of it. There should be a law that you can't have more than a total of 3 Rikus and 5 Organization XIII members within 10 yards of each other.

L, simply because it's too easy, and the whole creeping stalking gig that L has going on completely FAILS in real life. Know, you don't look like a super sleuth, you just look like a goddamn stalker.

I'm just going to go with L for now since the others at least take a degree of effort to pull off (yet still fail).

I don't mind fat people in cosplay or guys in drag. If you don't wear clothes that fit your body type you're asking to get bad looks.

I also agree with Red Z's first comment. When it comes to cosplay I'm shallow like that too. That doesn't mean overweight people can't do cosplay or dudes can't cosplay females; just do it tastefully. You may have a great costume but if you are practically falling out of it or showing "way too much," it sort of ruins the whole cosplay concept.

I'll second Zanduar's comment about being original and creating your own costume. I have little to no talent in taloring, but good cosplay can be accomplished cheaply by making your own props and creating an outfit from old/inexpensive clothes. There isn't really a need to buy a "ready to wear" costume, which in many cases is pretty low quality. However, I don't have a problem with costume buyers, as long as they don't claim they made it themselves.

As for wicked lame characters to cosplay as, since that what the actual debate is about... I'd have to go with L. I just saw a kid who "dressed" as L at a recent anime festival, and it sucked. He was wearing normal clothes, just combed his hair over his eyes, and creeped around the whole day. I was shocked to see he actually entered the cosplay competition. Unless he voted for himself, I doubt he got any votes.

Yes, any goku cosplay is bound to fail, but it pains me to imagine someone casplaying as a male character that cross-dresses (for example: Ritsu from Fruits Basket), now that could perhaps be worse than whatever that girl on the left was trying to be.
