Hey guys, remember Ultraviolet? No? Well, you're certainly lucky if you managed to miss out on that CG-and-wires western cinema crapfest. Unfrotunately, those of us who did suffer through the terrible, terrible Millia-Jovovich-as-vampiress vehicle have had those memories we carefully repressed brought back to forefront by what has to be Tokyo Anime Fair's most awful announcement: A new Ultraviolet anime movie. No, I am not kidding. Yes, I wish I was.
But what is perhaps most distressing about this is that there is some serious talent behind this production. The sponsorship of Sony Pictures and Animax has brought in veteran director Osamu Dezaki and character designer Akio Sugino for the project. Animation is going to be done by *sigh* Madhouse and Tezuka Productions. Yes, they're actually sullying the good name of the Godfather of Manga by associating it with freaking Ultraviolet.
Since Sony Pcitures has their hand in this, a worldwide release is all but guaranteed. I'm sure we'll eventually have to suffer through it on various cable outlets, as well. But maybe I shouldn't be so negative. This could actually turn out to be pretty good, like The Animatrix. But, you know... at least The Matrix had some merit as a movie. Ultraviolet is just... just... ARGH. SO MUCH HATE.
I'm at a loss for words at this point, people. If you need me, I'll be in bed, crying myself to sleep.
