Vertical wants your recommendations for new manga licenses

Vertical wants your recommendations for new manga licenses photo

Vertical's Ed Chavez has been asking around on Twitter for recommendations on titles for Vertical to pick up, and so I figured this would be a good opportunity for you all to make some suggestions. According to him, they're looking for some mainstream titles to pick up, as well as more mature titles.

Personally, I always pegged Vertical as a botique publisher, putting out some really top-notch manga that should be here in the U.S., but that doesn't necessarily make for a successful company. Still, there are plenty of titles that are floating about out there for them to release, ones that could be a really big hit for them.

And so that's where we come in. Sure, Ed has a huge depth of manga knowledge, but this sort of free market research helps make the decisions a lot easier. I've got a few suggestions, namely:

Hourou Musuko: I've mentioned it before, but this tale of gender identity just pulls at my heart in a special way. Gender identity and sexuality is something that's my own favorite niche, and the way that they tackle the characters is just fantastic in this title. It's a must read, and I think it's a really good fit for Vertical.
Soil: It's a mystery title that I only got through the first volume of, but its odd situation and distinctive art style certainly strikes me as a perfect pick.
Girlfriend: This is just a fun, but somewhat explicit title, talking about a lot of different first-time relationships, often making the jump to sex. It's erotic and cute, and hits my heart in a way those shoujo titles can't do.
Gunslinger Girl: Please, ADV hasn't done anything with the license. I just want to see this series on shelves again!

What titles do you have to recommend to Ed and the people at Vertical?
