Warner Bros. in talks to acquire rights to Bleach movie photo

Well, here's something interesting to think about: Warner Bros. is working with Viz Media to secure the rights to make a live-action adaptation of Bleach for the silver screen. If acquired, the producer would be Peter Segal, who's known for his work as director of Get Smart, 50 First Dates and other lighter fare.

So yeah, expect "Kurosaki Ichigo" to be Americanized.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Segal has been looking for darker and more mature fare to fill out his body of works, so it looks like he'll take a whole new direction with this piece, which in a sense is good -- at least we know that he isn't looking to have this fit in with his previous titles in any way.

That's about all that we know right in regards to the project. Warner Bros. seems to be on a manga-acquiring spree, already having negotiated Akira and Death Note rights. Let's see what else they might pick up next.

[Thanks, Raz!]

I'll assume you used a pic of Nick Simmons' rip-off "Incarnate" on purpose?
@phantomspots: Yes, he used it on purpose. The "Incarnate" debacle has become something of a running gag at Japanator.
I can't wait for the Incarnate movie! I hear it's based off of a popular magma?
I'm fairly certain that if they followed Bleach's actions scenes exactly like in the manga, the movie would be rated R.

Oh, and if it's anything like Dragon Ball Evolution I will be making fun of it. A lot.
seriously no ... don't wreck this anime to
I just heard about this, too.

Good to see that Americans are taking more notice of magma.
(well I screwed up that one lol. let me try this again)

Screw this, i'm posting a link

Oh god , Bleach has got worse enough with the arc crap. Someone wake me up when it's all over!
*gasping*
America, please don't forever ruin my image of this series and let it stay 2D...
Bleach is getting a live-action hollywood-produced film? What has this world come to?

Though now I think about it, Bleach is probably on par with a lot of the superhero comic movie adaptations we've seen over the past few years.
But if they take all of Beach and eliminate all the filler there just might be enough material for a live action 90 minute movie. Just sayin'.
Why does Hollywood keep trying to adapt anime that SHOULD NOT BE ADAPTED INTO A MOVIE!!!

The stuff they have tried were visually insane shows and hence the movies could never hope to compare.

What is the best thing about Bleach? Even people who hate the show will tell you it has incredible character design. There is no way that will translate to the big screen. If they want a young hero gets stronger and stronger story there are far betters ones out there both in anime and other mediums.

They keep picking the hardest stuff to adapt and keep wondering why it fails. While this would be why.
Hey, wait. If they do it right it could be cool.

After all, Transformers and Batman was created for kids and then the movies came out more adult-rated then most people expected. Maybe they can pull this off if they just focus on the essentials.
*looks at the train wreck that was Dragonball Evolution*

YEAH, NO.
@Ronin- You're delusional, Hollywood is and never will be capable of making a watchable Anime or Manga adapation
Oh FUCK NO. The one reason I still tolerate Bleach is the awesome character designs. Do you know what's the hardest part of adapting comics/games/etc. in live-action movies? Getting the CHARACTER DESIGNS RIGHT.

Also, expect "Kurosaki Ichigo" to be changed into something hilariously bad like Isaac Kurosmith. After all, no such thing as Japanese people in the real world, right? Hell, you could sorta barely justify it with Dragonball but I can't wait to see how they justify turning Ichigo into a white kid.
BETTER NOT LET THAT SIMMONS BOY GET A HAND ON IT...

Oh wait, I'm about 19 posts too late.
Noo! *shakes fist at sky* Curse you Hollywood! First Legion, now this?! This, I cannot allow!

No, seriously, the strong point of Bleach is in its characters and the fact that Kubo draws single panels that convey a lot of emotion. That is something that cannot be adapted into a 90-120 minute movie. They're probably going to go the "screw the story, let's make this as action-y as possible!" route, and make the action scenes over the top and stupid.
Not sure if this is relevant or not, but I found it funny, even though it's not specifically about Bleach:

Hey, at least its not Yobutsa
FACT: This is movie is destined to fail FACT
With the luck we have with Hollywood adaptations, chances are this Bleach movie will have as much quality as Simmon's Incarnate, so that picture is very relevant to the post.
Godd*mnit America. LEAVE STABLE FRANCHISES ALONE.
What could they possibly do with this? It's not made for a live version, let alone an american one. This will be like Sarah Palin, with the standards bar set so low it's already six feet below. They couldn't even get a friggin live Evangelion movie off the ground even though it would make more money than god?
I am actually rather curious how this will turn out, because I do not have a particular liking for Bleach after they finished the first 20 or so episodes.

Since I have no expectations and IF it turns out that Christopher Nolan wannabe will be directing it, I am 100% behind this project.
@rewarp
You know what curiosity did to the cat right? ... it raped it ... it raped it dead.
we will just call him black strawberry
@stilts: lol, got it. ;) I'd definitely heard about "Incarnate" but I'm new here, obviously.
Any amount of money says they are gonna whitewash it.
@Irothtin: ...in a bad way. Bleach may wear itself out every one-in-a-while with filler, but it doesn't deserve this kind of treatment. Maybe by me going on past experience (Dragonball Evolution, Speed Racer), I'm not giving them enough credit. But, this is the same group is doing a live-action Akira movie...
If it does come out on the silver screen I hope it doesnt come out a flop like DBZ was.
You'd think Hollywood would have learned after the first Guyver movie.
Sooo its going to be in 3D right?? O_O Bleach will slowly die after this. T_T
This is Dragonball Evolution all over again.
