Snooping around is to be expected. I try to be discreet about it and only pay attention to what has been left out in a room, and I never poke my head into places I'm not invited into when I first visit someone. That doesn't mean that everyone else acts the same way, now does it?
Of course not.
I know I'm being judged, and so I make every effort to make my room and everywhere else I'm living seem presentable and normal. So that when I hear a Japanese girl go "heee~," it's not in that "he's a creepy otaku who probably has a sex doll hidden away" sort of tone.
So, to make sure that I can score big points, I'm taking a few notes from over at What Japan Thinks. Namely, hide all my moe otaku crap (sorry, Mio) and anything that could give away a hint of femininity: makeup, shoes, dresses. You know. 110% GAR.
Usually, I'm not too bad, actually. I actually put more effort into putting my literature on display than my anime-related goods. What about the rest of you? Do you have a lot to hide in shame when you're planning on bringing someone over?
