Yes those are the Japanese Live action movies. This is supposed to be a US remake ala The Grudge or something along those lines.

I have to say if this is real it's terrible. The script is crap. There is really no reason to change anything. They don't need to change names locations or anything. Just make it with the big budget the Japanese movies didn't have and be as faithful as possible and it will be sure to be decent. However if they go this route fans will skip it for obvious reasons and everyone else will think it's retarded anyway.

I sure as hell hope thats a fake. I kinda expected them to ditch Lights name anyway, but this isn't Death Note anymore. Are they going to localise the name too?

Death Note is surprisingly popular here in America (within geek/art circles at least), so I think they're overestimating how much would need to be changed. The severe lack of Ryuk and the changing of Light's base character is troubling. However, given that we have no way knowing that this is real or fake, I will simply revert back to my previous state of passiveness.

Just because it was taken down doesn't mean this is the case. Scripts may float around and get bought up just so someone else doesn't pursue the rights before them. Like WB buying the Wonder Woman script. It's not like they were going to make the movie: they just didn't want anyone to have a DC franchise.

To be honest even if this script is fake i don't see the real script being a huge deviation from this

The leaked script is very conservative

a screenwriter once told me hollywood doesn't write movies for LA, NY, Chicago

they make movies for the biggest movie markets, which are conservative cities

having ryuk and death note at once would be just to much for those people, this way they can focus more on the death note

maybe? for sequels ray pen. is still alive, so to avoid jail time luke kills ray when he finds a torn page, and ryuk comes because he likes lukes style and digs up the death not for him, so he can kill ray's girl ,

and L brings Luke on board because someone is claiming to be The 2nd Kira, Lukes motivation in the 2nd movie could be to avoid jail time and death

and the 3rd can be about building a perfect world,
