What? No plans for a Tales of Vesperia PS3 US release? photo

Considering Namco Bandai's overwhelming desire for money, I'm surprised that they would go and tell VGchartz that they've no plans to release Tales of Vesperia PS3 to the US.

I mean, do they NOT want to sell us ridiculously priced DLC? PS3 owners have been begging for this for years, Tales being one of the biggest JRPG franchises alongside Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest

Perhaps it was too much trouble to localize all that new content? Is Microsoft's exclusivity deal still in effect for here? None but they can say.

Then again, "we have no plans" is often code language for "marketing won't let us announce it yet," so PS3-owning Tales fans shouldn't give up hope for having Patty Fleur the loli pirate yet.

I'm hoping it has something to do with a deal with MS, otherwise it would be that Namco does not like money, which I would find strange.
If it comes to the U.S. I'll play it. While I have a 360 I prefer the PS3, in fact I only have one game for my 360; Dead Rising.
There was no plans for ps3 version at all...or a ps3 star ocean 4....but we see that was bs
Namco has proven intractable on this sort of thing in the past, like with the flashy PS2 version of Tales of Symphonia updated with new super artes and such. I know the Tales series is a lot of work to localize, but I think there's enough potential for the PS3 version to warrant localizing and voice-acting the new content and releasing it on PS3. In fact, as far as I know, it's about as close as this generation has come to giving people a classic-style JRPG. I haven't played it myself, but I know I'd like to, and with as much bonus stuff as they're willing to toss at me.

I also thought it was unlikely that Eternal Sonata's PS3 version would ever see release, given Namco-Bandai's track record with bringing over later multiplatform ports, but...there it is, so I'm not ruling out hope for PS3 Vesperia yet.
God knows why Tales of Symphonia never hit western PS2's, but there's certainly more hope for Vesperia. Namco confirmed months ago that the extra content in Vesperia PS3 had already been translated to English, so they must be waiting for Microsoft's contract to expire. If not, then this translation must be for Hong-Kong, in which case you're still free to import it (think Demon's Souls).

Honestly though, I'm not that excited about this game.
GOD DAMN IT NAMCO

After I paid for your Xbox 360 beta too...
I'm almost positive it as nothing to do the exclusivity and more about "this game is not going to sell well cuz people wants them CODZ more"
@Analognub: On the other hand, Atlus has done well for itself on the Playstation 2, and they release RPG's that are even more niche than Tales of Vesperia. Heck, if a gamble like Valkyria Chronicles can pay off well enough to get a sequel, it would be foolish of Namco Bandai to withhold ToV because of a perceived lack of interest.
They released eternal sonata for the ps3 but not a big title like vesperia? WTF!
@Stilts: it didn't do well at launch in the US and it took a gamestop sale to get units moving, it didn't even have year yet from when it released. I think they made a sequel because in Japan, it has potential to do well. Just change the platform, make an anime, figures, mangas, etc. Now they have a recipe for success.

To get back on topic, we just have to wait and see I'm sure they'll release it eventually, but there is a chance that they won't because $$$$
I'm not much of a fan of the Tales games, but if it's such an economically sound decision as this, they're probably planning on it.
@PBz0r
That may be what I do if it does come out in Honk Kong.
There could be a few reasons why the don't plan on releasing it. While The new content may already be translated like PBz0r said it doesn't mean it's been voiced and there is a MASSIVE amount of new voice over work for the PS3 version. Somewhere around double what there was in the original version. They might have deemed it not worth the effort to bring all the english cast back in for a US release and thus will never bring it to the US as a result.

More likely however is that the contract with MS is still in effect and they are not allowed to say if they are planning a US release or not until that contract expires. Personally I would love to see it released in the US. I loved the original version and it would be a joy to play it over again with tons of new content added.
But then, why was the English cast called back to do more recording a few months back? D: D:
It was actually a point I read on Dtoid about big companies like Scamco Bandai not understanding that these titles will never be as big business in the west as they are in Japan - this is why Atlus make a killing, they realise that JRPGs are a niche and they market and produce them as such. Scamco overstock and lose money.

That said, I would definately buy this on the PS3. The 360 version still fetches £40 here in the UK which is putting me off buying it at the moment. Although my mind is made up that if I don't hear of a western PS3 release by June then I'm going for it on the 360.
People call the 360 version a Beta, but I damn well got my money's worth at around 170 hours logged in the game. Best damn Beta I ever played!
NOOOOOOOO. I need those extra costumes! I need to kick some serious ass wearing a Prince of Cosmos and stroll around in Chopin's swag!
Ohey, the better version of a Tales game is not coming to the west. Big surprise there. Also big dissapointment here.
Haha, "marketing won't let us announce it yet", I know that story. Sometimes, the more they let people wait, the higher they can price the product, because people become too eager to buy it. I'm now waiting for another series of anime that a friend of mine promised would find, but for now he only has a version that apparently has a problematic dll file extension. I'm telling you, he says he would get it for free, but I am willing to buy it if I find it being sold somewhere, waiting kills me.
