Seriously, this happened. Last weekend, Yoshiki of X-Japan made an appearance in a Japanese online real-time simulation game as a playable character. I'm really confused as to why, or how this deal was conceived. The game itself, entitled Character Wars, is themed around Romance of the Three Kingdoms, and features no music related game play. Instead players control their own avatars in 1-on-1 or 5-on-5 matches.
I think you can see why I'm failing to understand how this could possibly work, and while I absolutely love Romance of the Three Kingdoms, and X-Japan, I don't see myself dying to play it. That said, the creators have hinted about wanting to bring the game to other countries, using influential figures. I guess that means we may eventually see this game stateside.
In addition to Yoshiki's appearance in the game, you should expect to see the likeness of their vocalist, Toshi, and their late guitarist, hide, in the months to come. If you're interested in the game itself, you can visit the site here.
