Out of all the content available on the PSN, Sony announced a world-exclusive anime from BONES. Surprisingly, it took the #1 spot in downloads this week. Glad to see Sony knows the PS3's audience. Adding to the good news, Mike Graham over at PlayStation.Blog said, "So gear up for the full two season, 26 episode run. Episodes will be releasing weekly, so enjoy the ride."
Down in the PlayStation.Blog comments, readers are clamoring for either compensation if they download the whole series (The HD version costs $107 for all the episodes), or a subscription-based option where they'll get the series at a more reasonable price. Certainly, I'd like that too, or possibly a more reasonable pricing scheme.
BUT, to jump to Sony's defense for a minute, remember that this show is not being paid off with ad revenue, domestic sales, etc. You have all the costs of producing the anime, plus translating it burdened on the PSN user. Sure, Xam'd isn't going to make all its costs back through the PSN, but Sony needs to show that it'll be a profitable enough venture to release more shows on PSN first, and then they can make the rest of their profits when the companies like BONES release the shows domestically in Japan on TV.
The price point is a little high, but if you believe in the service, you should stick with it. Plus, the SD version looks just fine -- I enjoyed it plenty when I watched it. Stay tuned for the review later on today.
Lots of geeks out there working an hour just for two gallons of gas - if that! The economy can't take much more screwing with before the entertainment sector looses out to rent, transport, food, and broadband.
