Xenophobic protests derail Yamanote Halloween Train

Xenophobic protests derail Yamanote Halloween Train photo

Police swarmed Tokyo's "Yamanote Circle" after an outbreak of demons angry mob started causing trouble on the trains and stations. Ironically, the mob was around to protest the Yamanote Halloween Train, an annual, unofficial party held and populated mostly by foreigners looking for some drunken costumed revelry.

Unfortunately, the party itself had been petering out of late thanks to its evolution from "having fun" to "picking on Japanese," and as such 2ch commentators observed that it was the protesters themselves that seemed to have been causing the most trouble, being loud and waving placards bearing xenophobic messages.

A Japanese 2ch post had this to say:

Ultimately, it was the Japanese people who caused the most trouble lol
Foreigners either weren’t around, or even if they were it wasn’t for Halloween, but the Japanese still all yelled and threatened them lol

There were some people holding signs in English saying “Go to hell, get out of Japan!” I’ll never forget the faces of the uninvolved white people who saw that lol
They were like (゜Д゜). After seeing that I couldn’t feel anything but pity for them…. lol

It stopped being a demonstration against the Yamanote Halloween party and just became an anti-foreigner demonstration. It made me feel sick.

There were a lot of people holding the Japanese flag, and if that kind of image gets out on Youtube then everyone is going to think that Japanese people are a bunch of racists who hate foreigners.

Some of the protesters had apparently been organized by right-wing ultranationalist groups such as The Society to Seek Restoration of Sovereignty, an organization that - among other things - seeks to suppress information about World War II's infamous "comfort women," and regards laws prohibiting domestic violence as "signs of radical feminism."

See, foreigners and Japanese have something in common after all! Both groups saw their planned events go awry! Can't we all just get along?
