Yaiba, Inafune's new zombie game, also has ninjas, mecha

8:00 PM on 09.12.2012

Keiji Inafune's a busy guy, between cameoing in Neptunia titles and decrying the state of Japan's gaming industry, he and his new outfit Comcept have been working at least three different titles. We know about Soul Sacrifice, a violent action title for the Vita, and the iOS platformer J.J. Rockets, whose titular character is the President of the United States, but now we've got a teaser for his latest game, Yaiba, which he's making, he says, because we wanted it.

Said the man behind Mega Man:

"There are so many zombie games out there, yet people ask me for a new Inafune zombie game. I am grateful for people's respect for me as the 'zombie game creator' and to fulfill that I must answer their expectations with YAIBA."

Fair enough, though if you'll permit me to be a bit of a wet blanket, I think what many people expect when they say they want a new "Inafune" zombie game is something similar to the "Inafune" zombie game, Dead Rising. Judging by the (admittedly stylish) trailer and the barest snippets of gameplay/CG footage, this seems a little different.

Not that that's a problem, mind. More info is due at TGS, and it could look awesome! I'm all for a bunch of ninjas and mecha cutting through a pile of ghouls. Ideally, with proper photojournalist credentials. Have they covered wars?

Level 5's Youkai Watch has a new gameplay trailer
