Yay: Five creators collaborating on 'roleplaying fiction'

Yay: Five creators collaborating on 'roleplaying fiction' photo

Here's a weird new project for you to take anticipate: Five famous creators are getting together to make themselves some "role-playing fiction". What is that, you ask? I'm not sure myself, but it looks like they'll be getting together over the course of a week to play a tabletop RPG campaign, with the end results to be used for a variety of projects. Intriguing!

But any schmo can get together with his chums to play D&D, so the people playing and what they can come up with will be the primary draw. And the people playing are certainly somebodies in the scene. Kinoko Nasu (of Type-MOON fame), Gen Urobuchi (of Madoka and Fate/Zero fame), Ryohgo Narita (of Baccano!/Durarara!! fame), and Izuki Kougyoku (of Garden Lost fame), with Record of Lodoss War-famous Makoto Sanda moderating as the game's "fiction master".

Their story will take place in the Red Dragon universe, a campaign setting devised by Sanda, Kyomune Miwa (who helped with Fate/stay night) and Ukyou Kodachi, who wrote the Macross Frontier novels. Music will be provided by the fantasy-adept Hitoshi Sakimoto, who composed for Final Fantasy XII and Tactics Ogre

Everything will be serialized on website Sai-zen-sen, starting next year. Anime, manga, novels and games could well follow, if it turns out awesome. And it could, because this kind of collaboration is apparently how the likes of Record of Lodoss War came into being. Group SNE, of which Sanda was a member, started out by publishing the transcripts of their role-playing sessions, and everything snowballed from there.

Check out a trailer below, narrated in overly dramatic English. If I didn't know better I'd have thought it a trailer for Soul Calibur.

My only question is: What ruleset are they using? D&D 4th Edition? Pathfinder? Queen's Blade?
