I've heard about the Zoids franchise for quite sometime now, I never really grasped why it was popular both here in the States and in Japan.
Big deal, theyre all just a bunch of dinosaurs with nasty looking weapons and blades. But everything changed after giving my nephew his first Zoid kit shortly after winning the state essay championship over in Oklahoma.
When he opened the kit up, I was impressed. Firstly with the sheer detail each part of the kit has and also with regards to the number of things that can possibly be done with the toys. Being a former collector of model kit cars and planes I knew that there was tons of "kit-bashing" that can be done with these toys.
So before going back home, I bought myself another kit, the Geno Breaker from one of the local specialty toy shops near my place. I started leafing through the stuff included in the box and it included a very cool looking diorama containing the Geno Breaker and the Liger Zero.
After that, I knew that there was nothing standing in my way and I just had to get these for myself. Unlike my nephew Tony, I dont need to win competitions dealing with essays, I just had to wait till friday.
And that was the beginning of my love story with Zoids. I'm currently on my seventh kit and I really want to own those big-ass Zoids such as the Gojulas Giga and the Madthunder but I'm still trying to pay for my rent and stuff. Will be blogging about my other buys soon.
