A Daily Dose of Anime: The show that made us fall in love

Chris shows off his dark side!

Remember when you first started watching anime? Perhaps your friends in high school or college were whispering about some incredibly provocative show, or swapping bad copies of VHS tapes behind the bleachers. Maybe you had caught a few shows after school, or on a Saturday morning? Nowadays pretty much everyone has watched anime in some form or another.

However, most of us had that one moment, or show that changed our world forever. That moment that caused an animated television show or film to transcend the screen and spear right into our hearts. Yes, for this very special edition of The Daily Dose, we present to you the anime that made us super fans. I know your Japanator Editors are not alone here, we are all united under the mighty roof of Japanator to celebrate our undying love for anime. So, be sure to share in the comments below!

Chris Walden - Death Note

"I only really started paying attention to anime around 2007, starting off with shows like Naruto and Bleach. Nothing too extraordinary because I was watching these shows on recommendation, and it's just what happened to be popular at the time. These two shows got me intrigued, but hadn't really sold me on the idea that I should continue with other shows. To me, it was like watching through House, Breaking Bad or whatever; I'd watch them and move on. A few friends were already way into other shows, thanks in part to the old Crunchyroll, so I was eventually introduced to Death Note.

I think it was this show that made me think that I'd crossed the point of no return, in a good way. I think I can sum up my original feelings about Death Note by talking a little about what was going on at the time I was watching the last five or so episodes. This was during one of the breaks I had during my college years, and I was at home by myself, sat downstairs watching the end of the show on my clunky old laptop. I was under instruction from my mum to be in all day, as we were expecting a repairman to pop by and fix our terrible boiler.

All that I can remember about this, is that I let him into the house, and later let him out of the house. I don't recall the time between that as anything other than a Death Note marathon. Seriously, this guy could have been doing anything upstairs while I watched Light in his latest killing frenzy. I was well and truly hooked, and after that I moved to shows like Fullmetal Alchemist, Soul Eater and Claymore. Oh, and Elfen Lied, but we don't talk about that."
