Pizza Hut robbery lead by Store G.M.

A Pizza Hut restaurant in Fukugawa, Koto Ward, Tokyo had a really rough Sunday night when not only was the place robbed at knife point and an assistant manager assaulted with a metal pipe, but it turns out the whole thing was an inside job.

Tokyo Police reports that on Sunday, May 1, the store was being managed by Store General Manager Chihiro Masunari, age 27, and a 28-year-old assistant manager. The two delivery drivers on hand that night were both sent out on orders so the two were the only staff at the time. At around 10:30 that night Kaoru Takahashi entered the store with a knife and a metal pipe. Kaoru smacked the assistant manager with the pipe, breaking his arm, before pulling out the knife on Masunari, demanding money. Masunari complied, handing over ¥1.4 million (around $13,540) from the safe, money the store had made over the holiday (Golden Week) weekend. Kaoru then fled the scene.

That's when things get interesting.

Kaoru was identified by police from security video of the store. When accessing his phone records the police found that he had talked to Masunari several times before and after the robbery had occurred. When they pressed further they discovered that Masunari was behind the robbery as he had sent out the two delivery drivers on fake orders to get them out of the building, and faked a head injury he said he had received from Kaoru during the robbery. Masunari was arrested along with another suspect and an unidentified Chinese national that also were part of the scheme.

I've worked fast food and had some real miserable managers, but can't say any of them paid a guy to bash me with a metal pipe. Guess even in Japan fast food work sucks.
