AnimEigo aiming to Kickstart Bubblegum Crisis Blu-Ray

Fans of 80's anime and powersuits are sure to be familiar with Bubblegum Crisis, the show about a group of mercs called the Knight Sabers fighting robotic threats. A few years ago, the original eight-episode OVA got a gorgeous Blu-Ray remaster, leaving fans wondering if they'd ever get it abroad.

Wonder no more: AnimEigo is working toward getting out into the world. Thing is, it's being done via Kickstarter. If they can reach the goal of $75,000 by November 24th, AnimEigo will produce a two-BD set featuring all eight episodes, the Hurricane Live music videos and the Holiday in Bali live-action video. Pledge amounts begin at $5, but you'll get the BDs at the $50 level. Higher pay levels gets you posters, figures and even original animation cells.

While that may seem like a lofty goal, it really isn't. The Kickstarter has already reached nearly $70,000 with 26 days left to go. Not only will AnimEigo reach their goal, they're bound to get way more. The extra funds will go to adding new bonuses both physical and on the disk proper. There's even the possibilty of a new dub if enough is raised and the backers want it. The currently projected release date is August 2014, but the date might get pushed back depending on what extras the backers want. You can bet I already put down my cash!

[Thanks to Batthink for the heads up!]

[UPDATE: As of earlier today, the Kickstarter has reached its goal! Everything now is cake for the final release.]
