Annotated Anime: Stardust Crusaders episode 12

Dirty old man

Is it just me, or is everyone in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure raised from birth on a steady diet of scenery? If they haven't, well, they sure can chew it!

Not that that's a bad thing, mind you. In fact, it's the best thing.

I mean, look at that old lady overacting! She's overacting so hard that her face basically explodes like it was her Stand power or something.

But the old lady's not the star of this episode. Instead, we get a refreshing dose of hilarity as the show goes full slapstick with Old Man JoJo as he takes on The Empress, perhaps the weirdest stand in Stardust Crusaders so far.

It's literally a pimple grown from a speck of blood that turns into a little baby-man with plans of sticking poor Joseph in the neck with a rusty nail! That's so nuts I can barely deal with it!

And let's not even forget the dubious logistics of that whole power. It's pure coincidence that the baby-man managed to grow on Joseph's arm, after all. How would it have killed him had it landed on a less vulnerable part of his body, like a shin or something?

Of course, Joseph comes out on top, in the end, even managing to cockblock Polnareff in the process, but the real treat of the episode is seeing Joseph acting the way he did back in Battle Tendency.

Much of Stardust Crusaders has portrayed Joseph as a curmudgeonly old man, with the sprightly wit and constant scheming taking a back seat to the temper and seriousness. But this episode was all the way classic JoJo, from screaming "Oh NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO~" in English to the convoluted and highly contrived trickery that gained him the upper hand.

Old man's still got it, clearly.
