Buy anime, make a donation to help kids learn to read

Right Stuf partners with Reach Out and Read Iowa

If you're like me, you always intend to give more to charity, but the mystery of where your money really goes holds you back. Some charities are great about spending your money for the benefit of the populations they serve, but sometimes, administrative costs and other hidden expenses can eat up most of your donation before it's done any good. Doing proper research before giving is important, but it's another step between you and doing a good deed; in truth, this leads to many of us giving less than we probably should.

Fortunately, Right Stuf is making giving to Reach Out and Read Iowa-- a non-profit that helps children in poverty learn to read-- very easy. Not only can you donate while you shop for anime at Right Stuf, but the company is handling all those annoying administrative costs that can cut into your donation. What this means is that 100% of your donation will go to the charity, not paying mailing fees or whatever.

Right now happens to be a good time to do some shopping at Right Stuf anyway, since they have a major FUNimation sale going on now through Feb. 6: it's at least 40% off FUNi Blu-Rays and DVDs, which is pretty nice if you've been looking to pick up some One Piece, Fairy Tale, or something a bit more off the beaten path like PSYCHO-PASS. As an added bonus, any money you donate to Reach Out and Read Iowa counts towards earning free shipping on your order.

For more information, check out Right Stuf's page on the project. What's kind of amusing is that the "People Ordering This Have Also Been Interested In" field on the page is currently filled with Attack on Titan graphic novels. I guess fans of the gory giant-cannibalism saga are strong advocates for early childhood literacy? Good for them!
