Child designs monster, approved by Hayao Miyazaki, to grace a new plane. Win!

ANN tells us that a 10-year-old girl, Yuuko Yamaguchi, has had this design approved by Japan Airlines decider-people for use on the side of their very first 787 airliner. She beat out 13,473 other kids from 7 other countries - including the U.S., China, and France - when judges picked her entry as the best last month; judges included some guy, probably at least one other guy, and then some old dude named Hayao Miyazaki heading it up.

Normally, I'd be giving the airlines noogies for using a design they didn't have to pay for, but Hayao Miyazaki? That's the Chuck Norris of bragging rights. One day, she'll meet the guy who cured cancer, and she'll be all, "Well, Miyazaki said my bizarre bird-plane creature was better than everyone else's," and he'll be all sad because he lost.

Oh, and that thar new thing he's working on - Miyazaki, not the poor schlub who'll cure cancer - is officially gonna be out on the 19th of July.
