Cup Noodles and Final Fantasy provide instant weirdness in commercial

Just add hot waterga

In the world of Japanese commercial sponsorship, we often get odd and sometimes downright weird partnerships that often end up being horrible or glorious. Sometimes, we get both. Now, Final Fantasy XV, the latest big budget game from the Final Fantasy series by game publisher Square Enix, has teamed up with Nissin Cup Noodles to bring some instant noodle flavor to vidya gaming.

What we get is an amazing 15 second commercial and an in-game sidequest that prominently features Nissin's Cup Noodles brand instant cup noodles. The commercial is basically an asset swap where characters and cup noodles are inserted into the regular commercial. There is also an in-game mission where Cup Noodles are prominently presented and involves hunting monsters for meat. While some may find this just the most brilliant and hilarious thing ever, some may be turned off and think that Square Enix has gone too far.

Though this isn't the first promotional team up that Square Enix has done with Final Fantasy, the first one was back in 2000 with Final Fantasy IX, where Square Enix (then Squaresoft) made a commercial with Coca-Cola in the world of Final Fantasy IX (Video below). Though the Coca-Cola promotion with Final Fantasy IX was only in Japan, Nissin's Cup Noodles promotional sidequest commercial in Final Fantasy XV is available in all territories that the game was released.

So what do you think? Have they gone too far or is this just great? Tell me below. I think it's hilarious with the self-awareness of the whole thing.
