Death Note TV series announced and characters revealed

More deaths than Game of Thrones

Tsugumi Ohba's writing combined with Takeshi Obata's art produced a heart pounding, page turning manga called Death Note that was later adapted into a widely popular TV anime, a ho-hum movie adaptation, and some more side stories. Suffice to say, Death Note fans have a lot of content they can enjoy to help immerse themselves into Ohba's modern gothic masterpiece.

Now a TV drama based off the manga will air on Nihon TV every Sunday starting in July. Actors and character visuals have been released today;

  • Masastaka Kubota (Light Yagami)
  • Kento Yamazaki (L)
  • Mio Yuuki (Near)

As far as costumes go I think they have it spot on. Light is a handsome college student, Near is a younger protege to L and his bed head hair style matches his immature behaviour. However L's hair is too short and dare I say neat. L has always been a polar opposite to Light when it came to appearance. So it made sense that his hair would be long and wild because of his lack of social awareness and obsession with cases. The movie version of Death Note had a great costume for L making him look creepy but was still a very charismatic fella.

Producers have noted that the TV series will not follow the Death Note story to ensure fans will be always guessing what will happen next.
