Dragon Quest 8 smartphone trailer is now available

This should be interesting

Dragon Quest 8 likely went into a lot of people’s collections for the Final Fantasy 12 demo that it came with. It was a big deal because it looked good, something that was not said for the prior game in the series. Warrior had been reverted to the intended Quest.

Why am I telling you all of this? Because Dragon Quest 8 was a big attempt to get the series more attention outside of Japan. Redone menus, voice acting, FF12 incentive, the list goes on. And now here we see it coming out for smartphones. Which is interesting in that putting this big game onto these tiny devices is going to cause some issues. There have been murmurs about its frame rate and the fact that it is squeezed to be vertical instead of horizontal. I think someone even said the word ugly. (I then proceeded to faint.)

That is not stopping this DQ fan from being excited, though. I think the game would be a great one to have with me on my phone with me at all times. What I am not finding so great is the ¥2800 price tag when it launches next week in Japan on December 12. I’m not big on the “Apps should be a dollar or free!” idea, but I am worried enough about how this would perform to drop about thirty dollars. Fifteen and I think we’re talking. What would your entry price be?
