East meets West in manga comic tribute

Collection of Western-style manga images pays homage

Comic Book Resources has a weekly column where a stable of artists draw fan requests, compiled by theme. A recent post collected western redesigns of anime and manga characters -- something distinctly up our alley.

The image in the header was done by Marco D'Alfonso and depicts a Jack Kirby-style Akira remake. The full image is in the gallery, along with Sean McFarland's Kirby-style Attack on Titan image and Mathieu Parent's Kirby-style Lupin the Third piece.

Why Jack Kirby, you might ask? He's one of the most influential artists in western comics, producing some of the most definitive art of comics from the 1940s to the 1970s. It's understandable that lots of people want to pay tribute to him.

One last piece in the gallery that's a must-see: Rachel Ordway's drawing of Chobits done in Bryan Lee O'Malley's format. Check out the rest of the images over on CBR.
