Evil gets slashed: Kakuranger heads to North America

Kakuranger, Ninja Ninja!

You know that Shout! Factory's Super Sentai releases are doing fine when they throw a big surprise announcement at our faces. During their special Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger streaming event on Saturday, Jan. 23, the group revealed that they're releasing Ninja Sentai Kakuranger in North America on DVD. In other words, everyone now has to be on the lookout for any shinobi who try to ruin their evening dates.

As always, I'm super excited that I'll get to see the series where Power Rangers Season 3's villains (such as Rito and Vile), Monsters-of-the-Week, Ninjor, the Ninja Zords, the Alien Rangers, and the Shogun Zords originated from. Hell, I'm still shocked that they didn't wait until this year's Comic-Con to make the announcement. At least, this is a sign that it'll get released sooner than expected since they revealed the DVD box set's design as well. All in all, it's nice to see that the cover features the team in their suits.

For those who never watched the series, Kakuranger has two members of the main cast get tricked by a Kappa to free its brethren from their prison. However, little did they know, the guys that were tricked descended from the legendary ninjas who sealed away the Yokai in the past, which results in them teaming up with the other descendants to stop them in their tracks.

While I didn't get to watch the series, I heard that it was the first Sentai series to feature a ninja motif. Most importantly, there's a scene where the white member turns into a giant cheeseburger. Combined with the 1960 Batman-like attack effects, the gang's fighting style and techniques had a nice fun feel to them.

Before I forget, Kakuranger hits North America this year. Based on these turn of events, 2016 might be an amazing year to be a fan of tokusatsu. As a means to celebrate this occasion, you can take a look at the show's opening and ending theme below.
