Fatal Frame Wii U in the works: Plus a film, novel and comic too

0

The question is, will ANY of this stuff find its way over here?!

Fatal Frame and the Wii U were destined for each other. The Wii U tablet was practically made to become my Camera Obscura, fighting for my life and sanity with my dwindling Type-Zero film. With no title or date released yet, I was frankly shocked that it took this long for Tecmo Koei and Nintendo to announce that one was in the works

But it seems that a new Fatal Frame game wasn't the only thing in the oven. A live action film based on the franchise was announced for a Fall 2014 release, directed by Mari Asato (Bilocation, Ju-on: Black Ghost) and starring Seventeen magazine models Ayami Nakajo and Aoi Morikawa.

An original novel was also said to be in the making, penned by Eiji Otsuka (Multiple Personality Detective Psycho, The Kurosagi Corpse Delivery Service) due in August. Shin Kibayashi (Kindaichi Case Files), also known as Tadashi Agi, will be writing a comic on the Fatal Frame franchise as well.

I've been fascinated with the Fatal Frame series since Crimson Butterfly, and I was devastated that Fatal Frame IV never found its way here officially. Even more puzzling was the localization for a Fatal Frame spin-off game, Spirit Camera: The Cursed Memoir for the 3DS, which reviewed and sold terribly, giving Nintendo and Tecmo Koei another excuse to not give this a international release.

I'm still hoping desperately that this will get localized, but until a solid confirmation is made, it's little more than a dream. It's made worse when Nintendo consoles are region-locked, killing any possibility of at least importing the game without buying another Japanese Wii U console.

I like to think that Nintendo collects all the tears from western Fatal Frame fans to fill the water worlds in their Mario titles.
