First In, The Last Out: Naruto The Last finally clear for Philippine release

Took 'em long enough

If you're reading this, chances are you're based in North America: The majority of Japanator's traffic comes from that area. That said, you might be curious as to how folks in other countries outside Japan get their Japanese cartoon fix, and this newest tidbit might just interest you: Naruto: The Last has just been cleared for airing in cinemas in the Philippines.

Unfortunately for viewers in the area (including yours truly), the film was originally planned for a localized release way back last year, on December 17th, just a couple of weeks after the Japanese debut. The distributor, SM Cinema, then announced a delay to February 11th, a day that came and went with nothing to show for it. In the meantime, the movie opened in other locations, including the U.S. where our own Red Veron got the jump on me for writing the review. Now Orends Range reports that the SM Cinema Facebook account has revealed a screening new date: May 13th, 2015, just a few weeks before the movie is set to appear on home video. Great.

SM Cinema has remained mum on the exact reasons behind the delays, offering little beyond a vague excuse of "technical concerns about the content of the film". Of course, this doesn't prevent wild speculation, so as a properly incensed otaku, I'm offering up my theory: Someone in charge at that company only now just got over the fact that Naruto x Hinata is the canon pairing. Filipino fans, you can blame the great Naru-Saku conspiracy for your long nightmare.
