Get spooky with J-Novel Club's Yume Nikki and Ao Oni light novels

All Hallows' Eve doesn't have to end

On the night of Halloween, the people at J-Novel Club summoned not one but two horror light novels. Coincidentally, they're both based on freeware video games. Long story short, Yume Nikki and Ao Oni crept their way into the service.

While I didn't play the two titles, I got to see them in action. Yume Nikki looked interesting with its 2D surreal environments and the strange things you can do the creatures. When I saw Former Japanator Associate Editor Elliot Gay overcome Ao Oni on his Twitch Channel, it reminded me a bit of Corpse Party, except you have to run from a deadly goofy-looking blue monster.

In the end, my small knowledge of the two properties made me want to play them one day. With the light novel version being part of J-Novel's subscription, it looks like people have another way to relive both titles. Hopefully, they do justice to their source materials since it's important for them to feel creepy.
