Girls just wanna have fun (at any age, apparently)

Everyone likes a hot cheerleader, right? I mean, they may not be that bright, or even nice to the rest of us peons, but they're usually not too hard to look at.

But what if that cheerleader's 78 years old?

Okay, now I think I've got your attention. It's pretty much common knowledge that the Japanese tend to live a lot longer than us, with the average lifespan being about 86 years old. Well Fumie Takino's getting up in age, but it's not stopping her. She founded "Japan Pom Pom," a Japanese senior citizen cheerleading group, back when she was a spritely 63. The average age of her group is 66, but that doesn't slow anybody down, apparently. The group performs at nursing homes to cheer up the residents, and they don't skimp out on the typical cheerleader uniforms, either.

Yeah, that's right. This 78 year old is wearing spandex and short skirts. Mm mm good. According to Takino, her family protested her costumes, but she replied, "everyone gets old, so why not just have fun?”

Sounds like a good philosophy on life to me. Personally, I think I plan to be like Alan Arkin's character from Little Miss Sunshine and just start doing cocaine at age 80. I mean, c'mon, what else do you have to do at that age?

I know that the Japanese love their unique clubs and activities, at any age. This one's kind of unique just based on the age range, but have you heard of any strange or unusual Japanese club activities?

Oh, and I highly suggest you check out the link, just so you can see exactly the kind of enthusiasm these ladies have. Now if only I could have that kind of get-up-and-go at my age...
