From stoic soldier to cosplay savior
Man, the marketing blitz for Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII will just not let up. Good thing that the game is actually looking like it deserves to be hyped up a little, which is more than can be said for other parts of the Final Fantasy XIII trilogy at this point. Heck, Square Enix are so confident about this one that they've released a playable demo, which is available to download right now on PSN and Xbox Live.
And in keeping with lady lead Lightning's transition from stoic, single-outfit heroine in Final Fantasy XIII to costume-switching messiah in Lightning Returns (video proof of that courtesy of our own Dale North below), an exclusive costume's been attached to the demo for anyone with the desire to download it. All you have to do is grab the demo, and the Utsusemi Garb costume, as well as the Heavenly Fan and Kaminari Shield weapons will be unlocked in the full game when it releases on February 11th.
Technically, you don't even need to actually play the demo itself to get the unlock applied (just download and install it), but you might still want to, as the full game's "Outerworld" social feature will be active in the demo, recording your activity in-game. If you beat the boss fight at the end of the demo and use Outerworld to submit your score, another costume will be unlocked, named and patterned after classic Final Fantasy VI boss Siegfried.
Are you interested in seeing if Lightning can strike a third time? As someone who liked Final Fantasy XIII I'm pretty hyped up, but I've been led to believe that I'm in the minority on that particular opinion.
