Impressions: Dead Dead Demon's Dededededestruction Volumes 4-5

This Slice of Life takes a darker turn.

It’s been two months since my last Dead Dead Demon's Dededededestruction, so the consistency has improved. I will try to review every volume as they come form now on, too, especially since the story has progressed well in these two volumes, with new plot and character developments that separates the series from your average slice of life but still keeping the wacky character interactions from always.

The volume starts off with Futaba, who is going to Tokyo for University. However, due to the incidents that are currently having in Tokyo, her father is against it and says, “Only Losers Go To Tokyo.” She ends up going and encounters her friend Makoto, who is dressed as a girl. While in their flight, they counter one of the invader’s spaceship.  As the story progresses, it tackles more the morality over fighting the invaders, with citizens protesting weapons that kill the invaders.

The relationship between Kadode and Mr. Watarase develops as well considering the the latter broke up with his girlfriend. While Kadode has graduated from High School, making Watarase no longer her teacher, there’s still this cute student-teacher relationship among them despite Kadode having feelings for her former teacher. We get to see more insight in the life of the invaders and the hardship they go through as well, especially dealing with humans who are taking revenge on them for their lost ones. The volume ends with Ouran encountering an invader in Ojiro’s house, something that further develops in the next volume.

It was revealed that Ooba Keita was the invader, or at least the invader took over his body. He was formerly the youngest member of a band, too. The story takes a darker turn when we see more of the invaders getting killed. Especially those that appear to be just kids. I like the character development with Ouran—how caring she is of Ooba, and how she even misses class to take care of him, despite him not being the same person anymore. It shows more side to her than the nerdy carefree character that she was shown to be in the past few volumes. They ended up kissing, too. We also got an interesting story development as well—the invaders were the original inhabitants of the planet too. Not entirely sure how I feel about this, but I wasn’t completely surprised as it seemed like a possible outcome.

Overall, I’m liked that the story is developing, introducing darker tones and bringing morals into the story while still keeping its slice of life roots and goofy interactions among the main cast. If you haven’t had the chance yet to check out the story then I definitely recommend it.
