It's Showtime: Big O's Director hits us with a cool giant robot short

Can you spot the Marvel reference?

You know you're in for a treat when the Japan Animator Expo project releases a mecha anime short that's directed by Kazuyoshi Katayama, the man who brought us The Big O. Even though the piece took place in an area that's in peril, the Robot Expo's crew seemed like they were treating the crisis as an actual robot battle royale. We had people betting money on the fighters, and everyone was cheering their hearts off during the whole thing.

All in all, it was impressive to see the "Ragnarok's" staff syncing the piece's animation to the music on screen. Thanks to their hard work, the short manage to make me forget about the sound effects that we usually expect from action scenes. Not only that, it's hard to go wrong with a sequence that involves a badass dogfight between two Rocket Punches.

Considering that Animator Expo has given us another fun robot shot, I'm hoping that we could see some more mecha anime veterans in this project. Better yet, if Yasuhiro Imagawa joins the fray, I think that we'll be in for one hell of a ride. I guess that'll be based on whether the ONA gets a fourth season or not. For now, we'll just have to see what happens after all of its announced shorts hit their Website.
