Jackie Chan raises millions for Japan relief

There is a well known rivalry between China and Japan at times, but if you look at what Jackie Chan's done, you'd never know it. The famous actor, often known for doing all of his own stunt work, got right down to business after the earthquake-tsunami-nuclear crisis occurred. After so many years in the biz, Chan's got a lot of friends throughout Asia, and he used that to his advantage, calling friends from Singapore, Japan, South Korea, and Indonesia to figure out a way to help.

Chan and his friends quickly set up a charity concert called Artiste 311 Love Beyond Borders, which brought in (US) $3.3 million dollars in just three hours. Oh yeah, you know you've got superstar power when you have the ability to raise those kinds of funds in less than a day! And that's not all, more funds were donated the following night at a production wrap dinner that Chan held for all of those who helped to bring the concert to fruition.

Holy crap. Are there any other words to describe what Chan's managed to do? In order to garner these types of funds, Chan called in favors from many big names for the concert including a shout out from Lionel Ritchie, the appearance of AKB48, and Judy Ongg, to name just a few. It's pretty cool when people use their star power for good, and this just makes me appreciate Jackie Chan all the more.

[Thanks, Raz!]
