Japanator supports love!

In a historic decision Friday, the United States Supreme Court ruled that state barriers to same-sex marriage were unconstitutional, effectively legalizing the institution for same-sex couples nationwide. Naturally, social media and the internet exploded with expressions of joy and relief, a recognition of the decades-long struggle for equality.

At Japanator we support and celebrate marriage equality, both in the US and in other countries where people face discrimination on the basis of who they love. That includes Japan as well, which despite a thriving yuri and yaoi subculture, still lacks many key legal protections and recognitions for same-sex unions and LGBT people in general.

It's been a time of remarkable progress for equality. Let's hope that phenomenon spreads further.

Check out the gallery below for a tiny, celebratory sampling of fan art, as well as Destructoid's roundup of videogame company responses to the decision.
